I don't think a lot of people really understand how vitally important end-to-end encryption really is. Literally every service that's meant to hold private user data uses it. SMS uses it, Facebook and other social media uses it, banks use it. If something like the EARN IT Act threatens to undercut E2E encryption, it would threaten every single aspect of your privacy online. All of it. Everything from social networking to ecommerce would be fundamentally insecure and practically unusable without it. I deeply wish that people were paying more attention to it, I understand why they're not, but it boils my blood that pushing it during this crisis was probably intentional.
