Personal Branding & Content Matters.
“Hi, I am Andries and I am Superhuman...”
After joining the Google Hangout Open Office and meeting Sun Van denbrande during the live session, me and my partner in crime Karim Boutouta, decided to attend the event: Personal Branding & Content Matters hosted by #e3events very own Myra Colis and Sun van den Brande. I studied Communication & Multimedia Design, so I already know quite a lot about these subjects. But hey, that was already 3 years ago! Back then everything changed rapidly - revolution after revolution. So, I was very curious to find out if anything has changed since then.
The first presenter was Greet Bunnens from Belgium and she gave us insights to “Get Noticed, Attract Clients, Enjoy Freedom”. Like I learned in university, you have to start with an analysis of yourself. After that you will have to define your target group, make personas, develop scenarios, etc and find out who your ideal client is. Then you will address the client’s issue and prove that you are the solution. Eventually you’re going to have to find the right strategy to convince your potential client into using or buying the product/service. And in the end you will have to deliver your message through the right content and media channel. Her five steps to building a brand are almost the same to the method I had learned during my course. So it’s interesting to see that old methods are still applicable and it helped me refresh my memory on how to apply it to my own company, which I’ll definitely do!
Another interesting thing for me was building a fanbase, because in our business it will definitely be of good use to have a solid fanbase. Back then, we often used the Apple vs Android and Playstation vs Xbox cases, to proof that fanbases can really help to build your brand. We already experienced that some people would want to wear our Superhuman clothing or like everything we post. Those are the people that ‘know us, like us and trust us’. I think we will have to hand out some free stuff to some of our most loyal clients to reward them a bit ;)
The second speaker was Timi Stoop-Acala and she was there to give us insights in Content Strategy. It got very noisy during this speech and I was unable to fully concentrate on this subject. Fortunately, the most important thing to me I remembered: Focus on the content your client wants to see. So sell less, educate more and help them out. She recommended to find a way to become the leading content authority in the niche you are in. One smart and nice way to generate content she recommended was using the FAQ of the clients, to create videos for example. I already knew this by self-learning, but during my education we mainly focussed on showing as many features of our product/service as possible. So, it’s interesting to see that there is a certain shift in this area.
It was a very useful afternoon for me, because it helped me refresh my memory about Branding and Content. Also, the hand-outs we received from Greet (BRAND) and Timi (Content Brand Strategy) are going to be very useful to unlock Superhuman’s full potential.
