looking back at the original pinocchio tale, not only was pinocchio carved from a magical log, but the log was alive as gepetto was carving him. like he would carve a leg and it would kick. or he would carve the mouth and it would stick its tongue out at him. which honestly makes acting out the tale in eah that much worse. knowingly carving your child and them being somewhat conscientious while you carve them. this is just normal to them and they don’t care that much about it
i was thinking the carver would still have no control of when the puppet comes to life, but they come to life once the carver finishes carving all the details. all of it matters but it’s that final detail that brings it all together in the end. maybe the last thing gepetto carved for pinocchio was his left foot. and the last thing pinocchio carved for cedar was her right hand. and this changes for every generation’s pinocchio
