day 6: music/au (@eahweek)
(A fight with a villain, go figure.)
The Black Knight hefts her swords again, and blows out a breath. They just kept coming, she notes with a grimace, and jumps back into the fight. She heard something zip past her head, and sees that her partner(s) are holding their own pretty well. Princess Rouge darts past her with a cry, and her yo-yo wraps around the villains arm.
“MIRAGE!” Darling hears the shout behind her, and turns around, dodging the hit that was aimed for her leg. She watches Keeper fly up with their teammate in her hands, and turns back to the wave in front of her with a sigh.
The villain had struck in the middle of the day, right as Darling was heading to lunch with her friends. It crashed in the middle of the street, and started a distorted speech that Darling hadn’t been able to follow, as she ran away from the scene. Something, something revenge, maybe?
“Plagg.” Darling whispers, as she ducks into an alleyway. “We gotta go.”
“Yeah, yeah.” “Claws out.”
Darling scrambled out of the alleyway, decked out in her Black Knight suit. The only thing that screamed Knight about it was the sword she lugged around, but that was okay. She needed to be flexible.
Black Knight stares at the sight in front of her, watching as Princess Rouge dodges around the giant… spider? It had the arms and eyes of a spider, but also had rows of teeth that were spinning in its jaws. She’s slammed into the floor, and watches something swarm the spot where her head was.
“Thanks Sage.” Darling looks up at the girl crouched over her.
“No problem, Knight.” Sage sounds breathless, shield strapped to her arm. “Be careful.” Sage darts off to the side, tossing the shield like a frisbee, as Darking unsheathes her sword and stands up.
The thing made a clanging noise, and pieces of it broke off. Darling sliced at the tiny bugs that were swarming around her, and watches them join into a humanoid shape.
“We have any idea what this is?” The Keeper of the Hoard says, dropping down beside Darling.
“No clue.” Keeper hums, and runs into the mess ahead.
Black Knight is vaguely aware of Spindle wrapping one of the enemies in her string as they fight, and of Nightlight joining in. Time starts to blend, and they move the fight from the street to the roofs, and then even further. It’s like they're edging the thing out of town…or like they’re being corralled.
Princess crushes another enemy under her feet and looks after their teammate. The further they went the harder it would be to get back. Nightlight’s illusion was starting to wear off, the faux versions of them standing out more and more. Spindle was slumped against a wall, falling into slumber, and Apple worries about Briar’s safety.
“Sage, watch over Spindle.” She hears the shout of acknowledgment, and the scrambling footsteps towards the wall, as Sage fights through the crowd surrounding her.
“What’d we do, highness?” Knight says, spinning her blade in her hands. Princess Rouge rejoins the fight, and shrugs.
“What can we do? We’re running out of powers that can be used, and we’re running out of safe places to transform back.” Apple huffs, tossing another creature into the growing pile of the pests. They went down like bowling pins.
Knight raises her claw, and Apple shares her head. “We don’t know where the akuma is, Knight.” Apple’s yo-yo wraps around a pole, and she tugs. “Don’t risk it.” Knight barely acknowledges her words, jumping into the crowd, and Apple huffs again, flinging herself into the air.
She swung around the monster again, barely making out something shiny on its back. She pulls herself onto the top of the pole, and peeks up. Yep, definitely something glowing.
“KNIGHT!” Her partner looks up at her, and Apple wraps the yo-yo around her arm and tosses her up as hard as she can. “THE GLOWING THING!” Knight flies through the air and almost rolls off the creature's back.
“CATACLYSM!!” They watch as the thing cracks, and the villain withers, the butterfly flapping away frantically.
“Oh no you don’t.” Princess Rouge catches the butterfly in the yo-yo, and releases it after a moment. A swarm of ladybugs cover them, and then spread back towards he city.
Apple stumbles back to the restaurant where her and her friends were supposed to meet, and yawns. Raven waves at her, and nudges Faybelle, who’s leaning into her side.
“Sorry I’m late guys.” Faybelle snorts, and opens the door.
“Late doesn’t even describe it, princess.” The hostess leads them to a table, where Briar is already lounging, head in her arms as she naps, and where Cedar is scrolling through her phone.
“Sorry.” Apple apologizes again, taking a seat on one side of Briar. “Whatcha looking at Cedar?”
“Hero Watch.” Cedar puts down her phone and shrugs. “Blondie and Cerise wanted me to look over some of the photos from today.”
“Are they any good?” Cedar nods.
“I am so sorry.” Darling sits down on the other side of Apple, and smiles. “What’d I miss?” She whispers.
“Cedar’s telling us about Hero Watch pictures.” Apple whispers back.
“Any favorites?” Raven talks over their whispers, calling attention away from Darling’s appearance.
Cedar starts up on a small rant, and Apple looks around at her friends. These were her teammates.
Darling knocks their shoulders together, and Apple leans into her. She was content.
