Did Eamon ever like. Tell Isolde that Alistair was Maric's bastard specifically and that he was sworn to protect him and keep him secret? Or did he not trust his own wife with that information even though Alistair himself knew even as a child, and instead just let her sit there wondering? Or did he tell her, and she didn't believe him?

Because if he didn't tell her, I guess she got a real surprise when Eamon finally woke up and was like "Here's our candidate for the throne."

Then Loghain's Yes-Woman, Ser Cauthrien has the audacity to bitch at us about how we're against 'the man who ensured that we were born into freedom' and then justifying enslaving elven citizens without a hint of irony. All I can think of when she starts lecturing my Warden about honor is-

An Unpopular choice but Alistair married Anora in every one of my games.

Because it is the most stable government but also to keep away Eamon’s greedy hands from the Ferelden throne.

GOD the second i think about eamon my blood starts to fucking boil, like he was entrusted with the care of his brother-in-law's son and fucking abused him for a decade????

he literally let a CHILD sleep outside with dogs rather than inside, because his wife decided she didn't like him, and it's not even like this child would have been the product of an extramarital affair!!! isolde came into the picture WELL after alistair was born!!! what kind of fucking chocolate eclair backbone

he let isolde BULLY alistair so badly that he felt like he didn't have a home, and instead of actually raising him, just fucking abandoned him at the templar academy aged ten and expected him to just fucking grow up and deal with his life. that alistair emerged as such a kind and compassionate soul is fucking REMARKABLE

and then eamon has the fucking AUDACITY to try and use alistair's status as a theirin as emotional blackmail when he ignored it for the entire of alistair's childhood, and then appoint himself as advisor if alistair becomes king?????

eamon utterly failed in his duty to care for alistair, he deserves NO sympathy or benefit of the doubt, he is a spineless, cruel man who uses a child as a pawn for political gain and I spend far too much time dreaming of scenarios where my wardens curb stomp him

Hi! Can you tell me about your first impressions of Arl Eamon? I always thought writing him as an antagonist was a fascinating choice

Hi! Thank you for this question, I have quite a lot to say about Arl Eamon that isn’t all flattery, but he still has a lot of depth. The choice to make him an antagonist in Falcon evolved from the much smaller role I had planned for him, because as I was writing I needed someone who could be a foil for Cailan’s idealism while also showing that Loghain’s position didn’t come about just because he turned evil and power-hungry.

In fact, Loghain and Eamon have a lot of similar characteristics: they’re patriotic, have defended their country in battle and in politics, and both think their way of doing things is right (and that Cailan is a fool - but only when he doesn’t do exactly what they say). My first impression of Eamon himself was obviously filtered a lot through Alistair, who was a young child when they last spoke and had no other parental figure to cling to. The fact that he kept the amulet Alistair broke suggests that he felt something towards the child he was supposed to take care of, but his actions after he gets the ashes shows that foremost, he always saw Alistair as a potential political tool. I didn’t like him much when I first talked to him because he just assumed everyone would do what he wanted (I played Mahariel first) but as I looked deeper into his motives, the less sympathetic I became.

That’s the characterisation I tried to take with me when I wrote him into Falcon. What he says is that he wants what’s best for Ferelden, but it’s a pretty happy coincidence that that would also have a load of benefits for him. It was fun to explore how he uses ends to justify his means, and how a lifetime of doing so might lead to complacency.

okay. okay so i am probably kind of biased here because i Pure Loathe arl eamon but i just had some thoughts:

so. we know from the return to ostagar dlc he was writing to cailan and suggesting he put anora to one side because she hadn’t given him a son in five years. going from this point i feel like he wouldnt agree with or see the point of alistair and anora marrying because if anything the fertility issue would be exacerbated by the fact alistair is less likely to conceive as a grey warden. that being that, i think he’d clearly favour the idea of alistair ruling alone. and in that instance, alistair will appoint eamon as his regent i dont feel like its too much of a reach here to say that eamon wants this? he says he can’t rule directly because it would look all too much like loghain’s attempted power grab, but him as regent? he can tell alistair what to do and it looks like he’s helping a clueless alistair settle into his role 

i don’t remember the exact lines but eamon warns the warden against supporting anora because she wants the throne too much/will do anything to hold onto power. like? god forbid theres a woman with drive and determination, who knows what she’s doing and is fully qualified to do the job of ruling ferelden. more qualified than cailan was, more qualified than alistair is. this coupled with the fact he was pushing cailan to get rid of her in the first place it just kinda smells to me like... okay buddy, are you just trying to get rid of her because she won’t let you push her around? 

anyway idk i just think this man is full of shit lmfao
