the ending is just chilling but the part I cannot get over is the scene with Marika and Kobayashi in the boat. her body language in that, the part where she’s bowed forward and then her hand twitches, it’s genuinely terrifying. highly endorsed. everyone go watch Noroi: The Curse on the internet archive here

7. What book do you love but usually not recommend because it’s weird or intense, etc?

one that I don’t even know if I like but also at the same time love is Paradise Rot by Jenny Hval. the consensus is that it is not a pleasant read, which I agree with, but I discovered Jenny Hval’s music in 2020 and this is definitely a natural extension of her musical works imo. I often find books that go for the shock factor to be tedious and dull but with this one everything seems to be a natural progression within the story she’s telling, and I think the disintegration of the corporeal along with the invisible boundaries, while on the nose, is very well done.

juniper ➳ what personality trait does someone need to have for you to feel safe with them?

one trait for sure is being genuine. I don’t expect this from strangers obviously but if I am seeking acquaintanceship or something greater from someone, I think being genuine goes a very long way. sometimes it can come as bluntness and for me that’s fine, but I need to know what someone’s intentions are to trust them. I don’t need transparency necessarily either but I do think that having courage in your convictions to the point where you’re open about them is a trait I embody and something I like to surround myself with. it also leads to greater communication and stronger bonds imo because you can trust people to call you out on your bullshit and then rebound stronger relationship wise because it’s coming from a genuine place of care and interest.
