The New Kid // Doublethemystery
The first day of school.
Well, as close as Brooklyn Smythe would ever get.
She was transferring in, at the middle of the year, and while for most kids it'd be hell-- she couldn't believe her absolute good fortune. Evelyn was letting her go to school. A real, live school with other kids and other adults where she'd be learning more than just how every single subject could be used to murder someone.
Brooke found her classroom quite easily and slid into a seat. She set her notebook on the table. A breath. sixth grade. A year ahead of where she should be. But that was okay. She'd be bored in fifth grade anyway. The other kids were bigger than her but Evelyn always told her size didn't matter.
She folded her arms and waited, hearing the whispers around the room about the sixth grade teacher. She was apparently a favorite, or something. Brooke wondered why. Her experience with adults was limited to what little memories of her parents she'd retained, Kovarian, and Evelyn. And while she was very, very attached to Evelyn she couldn't see how other children would like her. Brooke had never thought of the fact that not all adults were the same. In her head they were all like Evelyn. So this teacher mystified her a little.
The question remained-- would Evelyn let Brooke finish the year? Brooke hoped she would. But she'd have to prove this was actually useful to her goals or else she'd be out of here in a heartbeat.
Pushing that thought from her mind, she started doodling on a sheet of notebook paper and waited for class to start.
