Deafness help!
Anyone have a child (under two, or diagnoised under two and now is older) who is partially deaf? (One ear works one doesnt) I reveived a letter from the audiologist with the offical diagnosis- im wondering what the next steps are. From what i understand, he will recheck at the next appointment, and recommend/schedule tubes to see if that allows the eardrum to vibrate (it currently doesnt). But my questions are: whats next? What does placing tubes entail? Are they also going to remove his adenoids? This process has been so long and drawn out its been really frustrating. We've known since birth that he was likely deaf, and have failed every hearing test since- I've tried working with him in sign language (I did an extensive study in college), but he just gives me an eyesbrow (my kid clearly, just in attitude.) The problem is that he isnt 100% deaf, and therefor reacts like a regular kid most of the time, stubbornly refusing to try and communicate via hands! Im looking for insight, on process and what to expect and how this will (already is) affecting his developement. He is 18 months, doesnt speak (does cry, but inly a little), but his language skills are considerably behind. He doesnt even make repeat sounds (babababa, mamama; dadadad). Please reblog to spread- im hoping someone has been through this ans give me insight!
