I genuinely love the early Simpsons because
1. The ✨a e s t h e t i c✨. It was such a vibe and those shadows and sunsets were fascinating. That vibe was so... Perfect. Perfectly nostalgic and i lowkey want to cry from that 🥲
2. Mr burns. HE WAS SO PATHETIC BACK THEN i mean he remained but I'm so maternal towards early mr burns he's just a 100 year old baby
3. Marge. She was really autistic and sometimes really.....lonely. I'm not sure but i feel like she lost that vibe later. She became more "normal"
4. The artstyle. Do i even have to explain?
5. SIDESHOW BOB!!!!!!! That was his golden era, there were so much (? As i remember) episodes in 1-15 seasons. Also he was more beautiful and less "funny" back then. I wish he arrived from prison right into my house. Idc about the war and the distance. I said go home.
Sometimes I tell people that Sonic used to be the Bart Simpson to Mario's Mickey Mouse and then I remember that this, too, has lost all meaning, as Bart Simpson has been a corporate shill for decades
Homer At Bat, first time watching
Huh. Its interesting how early on Chief Wiggum seemed corrupt, but it was underlings who did the more foolish dangerous stuff
Like he’d tell them to turn off the police radio and ignore crime when they are having fun, but also scold them for poor firearm safety
Watching The Simpsons on Disney+ and Ned Flanders calling the reverend because he was coveting his own wife is pure comedic genius. The older Simpsons are most definitely the best.
"Stark Raving Dad" is an episode that proves how creative and playful "The Simpsons" was in its early years (possibly its peak). The boldness to take the biggest cultural force in the planet and have him voice a character that looks nothing like him, in a mental institution, and write a (amazingly catchy) song to settle a in plot sibling rivalry is fucking great. It fills my heart with joy There are some brilliant jokes (Homer showing a "Not Insane" placard to prove his stability still cracks me up) but mostly it's just a amazing tight rope act, and so fun to watch. This episode should really be a model how to use guest stars in unexpected ways. And it just shows how completely unlike any other show "The Simpsons" was like in the early years. A anomaly, but a god damn delightful one.
