'The Triumph of Death' by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, c.1562. Apologies for our lack of posts recently! But the title of this painting aptly summarises the throat infection I have had this week 😂 It is also the name of Bruegel's fascinating painting - death is captured in so many different ways, from the army of invading skeletons to the pyres and dead trees littering the landscape. The lower half of the piece depicts some particularly disturbing images, including a dog eating the face of a corpse and a skeleton on horseback killing people with a scythe.
