WAVERLY. — @angclpants
❝ that doesn’t mean you should lie to your friends or family. ❞
“It’s not always that simple, baby girl.” Never, really, in Wynonna’s experience. Simple died for them the day she picked up daddy’s wand and struck him in the back with a nameless spell she can’t remember speaking, and the TRUTH ended for her with teeth tearing into flesh and what she’d thought would be her dying cries. Now honesty feels like something that splits her open and empties everything out. She’s always so afraid none of it will fit right after.
And even more afraid of how her family will react when she has so little of it left. Watching Waverly’s face cycle through so many emotions does nothing to relieve her fears.
“Listen—” Wynonna tries to lean forward and grimaces. Every muscle in her body aches, every joint still settling back into place after recent transformation. Just flexing her fingers sends rivulets of pain shooting up her arms. She’s not all right; every letter sent was a lie. “There were some things I just couldn’t say. The WAR—I was helping fight it.”
But that doesn’t explain why she stayed away so long after it ended. This is the part that sticks in Wynonna’s throat, anticipating the disgust that’ll dawn across Waverly’s face once it’s said. She’s not sure she can bear that look from her baby sister after enduring the suspicious stares of people who were meant to be her allies.
“There’s more…” Wynonna gives up the fight to sit forward, letting herself slump into the couch with a grunt and a wince. “I’m...not well,” she adds, as if the slow, pained movements and dark circles beneath her eyes aren’t enough to announce it. She thinks wistfully of the flask in her boot and regrets not grabbing it before she leaned back. “You...might wanna sit down for this part. Really.”

“ wow -- somebody around here newer than me. it’s like finding a unicorn, ” she said dryly. carolyn set down her tray and took a seat across from the other woman. normally, she didn’t mind eating alone -- she was plenty used to it. but, with the sgc commissary full, she decided new girl solidarity was a better option than the jocks at the next table. a slight smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. “ you’re an intern, right? archeology department? i’m dr. lam -- carolyn. ” // @earpangel ♥︎’d
“ you keep using that word. i do not think it means what you think it means. ”
Wynonna half-smiled. “That could cover any number of words that come out of my mouth and you know it.”
