4. What season reflects their personality best?
i think summer would just because i associate summer with being full of energy and Annie is usually a pretty energetic person
9. Do they have a background story?
oh boy do they ever. uhhh….let me see if i can summarize this as shortly as i can because Annie has probably one of the most extensive backgrounds compared to any of my other characters.
Annie was originally of noble birth. her family was taking a relaxing vacation and were passing through some woods as a shortcut. got ambushed and her mother managed to hide her in a tree hollow and lure the attackers away from Annie. Annie was later discovered accidentally by a couple of Dalish hunters, one of which whom just wanted to leave Annie to die while the other persisted they rescued her. the one who wanted to save her was named Iona and despite being told not too, she brought Annie back to their clan, was promptly chewed out for saving a human child and told to leave her in the forest. Iona refused and left because she couldn’t bear to kill an innocent child.
so Annie’s raised by this Dalish elf who has to constantly be on the move because not only is she by herself but she’s also a mage. when Annie’s 9, her mother comes back with a small elf boy in tow that she rescued and was apparently part of Iona’s old clan that had apparently had been attacked and slaughtered and Atavian was the only survivor. so Iona rescued him and Atavian became Annie’s younger brother. Atavian turns out to be a mage as well and Iona is able to help him control his magic so he doesn’t accidentally burn the whole forest down. they live with their mother until Annie is 20 and she starts getting this itch to explore and be out in the world. Iona’s worried but encourages her nonetheless. Atavian refuses to let Annie leave by herself and insists that he comes too and after a lot of debate Iona lets them both go.
so basically the next 7 years the siblings are on their own and instead of trying to be productive they essentially become a couple of con artists. usually tricking people out of some coin and food, just stuff they need at that very moment. they’d always been taught take what you need and nothing more. in their journey, Annie saves a cat that is near dead and Atavian manages to patch it up while Annie nurses it back to health. the cat becomes named Pookah and sticks to Annie like glue.
so one day when Annie’s 27, they come across this nice little village and they’re running low on food and money so they decide to try and con some of the villagers out of resources. they cook up this scheme that a beast has wandered out of the woods and is coming to steal children and at night Annie sneaks around and starts leaving some wicked claw marks on posts and spooking cattle. well one of the villagers ends up being brave (or stupid depending on your view point) and manages to try and attack Annie. he fires an arrow at her and Annie is so startled that it nails her in the thigh. she slinks off back into the woods to deal with her wound. literally the next day, the Warden and their merry band of misfits passes through the village and upon realizing that it’s a Grey Warden, the villagers beg them to deal with their supposed beast problem. Warden agrees, manages to bump into Atavian who is acting really nervous and suspicious and through him, are led to Annie. the entire situation is dealt with and they just agree to pretend the so called beast is dead and through a little bit of quick talking, Annie manages to convince the Warden that her and her brother could be of great use and travel along with them.
though them being with the Warden is honestly just a convenient excuse to safely travel for a bit but whatever.
but yeah that’s essentially like…the core of her back story before the game time lines.
17. Who do you think they’ll get along with best among their companions, if any?
i’d imagine Iron Bull. i can just imagine them constantly having strength competitions and Annie just begging him to throw her at people.
18. Who will they romance, if anyone?
