i don't see this explored at all (and maybe I just haven't looked hard enough), but Maria must have been a very powerful psi user. As strong as Ness and maybe more so. She had a magicant, which the original game describes as a mere "illusion". However, it functions as a full-on alternate dimension, one that can be physically entered by others. Matter can be extracted from this space, which then persists even after the rest of it dissolves.

We know she raised Giegue/Giygas, who ended up being THE most powerful psi user in the series. Maybe she had nothing to do with that, but if she was also a god-tier psychic, it would explain why the big G far surpasses even his peers.

And finally, she somehow fractured her memories and planted them as melodies around the land for her great-grandson to find and use against Giygas. It was a weird plan but it worked! Very nice and accurate prophecies.
