Earwig and the witch for #moviemonday It's a Studio Ghibli film, which should mean I automatically like it, but this one let me down in several aspects. It didn't have the same nostalgia/dreamlike quality of the other Ghibli films. The music was definitely not what I'm used to from a Ghibli film and maybe I went in with those expectations, but I feel it's justified. The Netflix version is only dubbed and there's no Japanese audio with subtitles. It was off putting with the audio not matching the mouths moving, which is another reason I hate dubbed 😒 The main character Erica/Earwig is a pushy brat, which is common enough to deal with, but the fact that there's no character development for her is disappointing. She's the exact same character at the start and end. I kept waiting for more and didn't get it 🤷 I haven't read the book for comparison but I'd hope there'd be some point to the story. There wasn't much in terms of a plot. At least, there was the potential for it, but we didn't get much. I could have learned more about Erica's mother, the witches after her, how the Earwig band went from what seemed to be fairly human to the witches they ended up, but again, nothing 😕 5/10 #earwigandthewitch #netflix #kidsmovie #moviereview #familymovie #dianawynnejones https://www.instagram.com/p/CXHTtAYBSpa/?utm_medium=tumblr
