i like to think evelyn serving in the same war easterman's brother did and then committed suicide in has some kind of effect at least subconsciously on his fascination with her. obv many many ppl served in the korean war but I don't think someone as misogynistic as easterman is necessarily going to expect the woman he's chosen to basically be a replacement of his ex-wife in all but name because she fits that standard of 'femininity' to have served in the same war his brother did, that she would be able to understand stanley and his death in a way that he cannot. and with that file revealing that stanley didn't even actually go to korea—well, evelyn has more experience in war than his brother whose death was the reason why he was even researching brainwashing to begin with (bc ofc his brother couldn't be mentally ill like his mother, he had to have been brainwashed as a pow to do it). and when his paranoia gets worse regarding all the 'lies' that murkoff is making up (his wife leaving him, his brother's death meaning nothing - I can't remember the file but he says exactly this) then who is left to deal with it except evelyn who reminds him of exactly everything he's lost
saw an easterman edit to a song on evelyn's playlist with some of my fav voice lines of his and i ascended
eastervale sounds kinda stupid to me sometimes but I literally can't think of anything else
