‘The jungle that was and the gate that remains.’ Our home is combined of a few neighborhoods on Chicago’s near South side: Bridgeport, McKinley Park, Pilsen, Chinatown and Bridgeport. ‘The Yards’ are a commercial area south of 39th street that was once the nation’s slaughter yard. The gate itself is reported to be designed by John Wellborn Root of Burnham and Root in 1875, and is the lone remnant of the stock yards to survive. In 1981 it became a National Historic Landmark.

Not far from Lowend and @checkeditoutchicago headquarters, it seemed like a logical backdrop for @thearchitectsgarage to illustrate the 1986 3.2 Carrera. Douglas Peterson-Hui is an artist from British Columbia. He has a Masters of Architecture at Ryerson University.
