she  wants  to  beg  his  pardon ,  to  slowly  blink  and  step  away  from  the  stranger  who’s  told  her  just  now  to  shut  up .  queenie  doesn’t ,  the  twin  sets  of  emotions  unnerving  and  yet  very  intriguing .  it  could  just be  an  id ,  she  supposes ,  louder  than  average  and  mimicking  the  sound of  another  .  eddie  seems  sweet .  and  unremarkable .  

but  something  twists  in  the  back  of  her  mind ,  a  question  she  doesn’t  feel  comfortable  asking .  you  alone  in  there ,  big  guy ?  instead ,  she  smiles  at  him . 

❝    no .  never .    ❞

she  says ,  quite  plainly . 

❝    just  wishful  thinking .  i  don’t  really  get  any  peace  where  the  world’s  concerned .    ❞

her  expression  shifts ,  some  of  that  budding  interest  in  her  warm  eyes .  she  nudges  him  with  her  elbow .
