Goodbye

She saw her from across campus, walking slowly with that hood still on and luggage trailing behind her. Before she could even think of what to say, she was sprinting over across the yard and right into the wolf girl. She glared at the other as her hands instantly grasped hers, “why...where....what are you doing?” She asked, her voice trembling slightly. 

It was just a normal day, yet Ophelia awoke feelings that something was off and she was right. Scarlet was leaving. Everyone always left. But she didn’t know how damn soon. Holding her breath, her eyes glossed over slightly as she looked into her friend’s eyes. “Please tell me you not leaving...please.” She pleased as she squeezed her friends hand with more strength,”you can’t leave me..” She begged, her voice was weaker then it ever has been. “I can’t be alone again.” Her only female friend, her sister was going to disappear from her side without even a goodbye. “Red..” She felt her eyes water up, searching the girl’s eyes for an explanation.

░ ACCEPTING: 14.Having an un-birthday party in the Wonderland Grove.

There were bits of confetti in places he did not even wantto think about, but a grin reached from ear to ear. Maybe Scarlet couldn’t seeit beneath the ridiculous (and he’d been informed mandatory) top hat whose brimdipped deeply, but hopefully the scattered chortles that escaped its shieldwould give her a clue down at the other end of the table.

Cardinal rather suspected the glittery substance in theswirling, purple, dubiously dubbed tea was not sugar as they’d been informed. Itdid make the liquid palatable, however, so he was willing to let it slide fortoday. The Hoods were not so great at letting loose and being invited to anun-birthday party had been shocking, at least for the elder. Yet the bubblyatmosphere of silly shenanigans was contagious, oozing into his typically rigidand reserved personality through some form of osmosis until the rebel was jazzhands-ing his way to the next seat.

And Scarlet, well, he didn’t know if he’d ever seen hersmiling so brightly. The self-proclaimed wallflower laughed and sang along tothe catchy tune as he watched, mesmerized. Because it wasn’t the ginormous daffodilsoccasionally emitting poofs of smoke or the merry tinkling of china. No amountof hexcellent crumpets or his own offering of triple tiered chocolate dippedcherry cake could put him in as lovely a mood as his baby sister’s happiness.

If they could feel normal and welcome anywhere, of course itwould be a piece of Wonderland.

░ ACCEPTING:

Burying a sigh into his mug of hot cocoa, Cardinal glancedup the considerable height of the tree and then at his sister with raisedbrows. “You were on my shoulders then. I don’t—” Clucking his tongue the elder cuthimself off with a bemused shake of his head. “Scar, you wouldn’t mess with yourbestest big bro in this time of year, when all are supposed to be at theirkindest, would you?” Lowering his mug slowly, a palm pressed against his chestwhile he promised, “Because I will try and climb this evergreen right now, andprobably end up toppling over with a fully decorated tree on top of me, if that’swhat you want.”

“I’m cold.”

░ ACCEPTING:

Despite the chill this time of year, Cardinal couldn’t sayhe felt cold. Everything was cheery and bright. The ones he loved were allaround and keeping him full of joy, so how could he be anything less than warm?When one of the loved ones in question offered up a complaint, callused fingerswere all too quick to unwind the scarf around his neck, suddenly remembered.Gently the elder draped it around Scarlet’s with a small grin. “Do you want tohead back? We can always come out another time. Besides, who’s really thewinner if we surrender to Jack Frost and make our way towards a cozy fireplace withcupcakes and cocoa?”

A box was placed next door. A pair of shoes skittering away after a few knocks. The box was decorated in gold wrapping with a white bow. A note was attached. "Merry Christmas Jewel. I'd like to thank you for everything and for being with me ever since. Enjoy your new DVD sets of some TV shows such as FRIENDS, How I Met Your Mother, Harry Potter, and etc with some popcorn packets, a charm bracelet, and a polaroid of you and Card." - Red

It was too early to be mobile, all Ophelia wanted to do was lay in bed. Yet when the doorbell knocked she reluctantly got up and looked around. She saw no one and just as she was about to close the door, something shiny caught her eyes. A small grin fell on her face as she pulled each individual gift.

Seeing all the mortal entertainment had the goddess raising and eyebrow before trying on the bracelet and smiling to herself. Finally the picture, staring at it with glazed over eyes she tried to rub them before the tears fell. Somehow Red had become someone who could make the hardened girl be so soft. Closing her door and bringing the gifts inside, she reminded herself to shower the other in hugs next time she saw her.

A knock rapped on the doors of Cardinal's dorm, before a pair of shoes scurried away leaving behind a huge decorated box wrapped in silver wrapping and garnished with a red bow on top. In the box, there was a small french press coffee maker, some hot chocolate packets, a new red gingham patterned apron, and two homemade wolf plushies. A note attached to it, "Merry Christmas big brother. Enjoy this care package. I love you." - Scarlet Lupine Hood

When a knock resounded throughout his dorm room, the cornersof lips were already curling up. Cardinal knew exactly who it was and what wasup. He might not have much in the way of talent, but his hearing was stillexcellent and a little common sense went a long way. Resisting the urge to tryand race to fling open the door, he sauntered over on a mental countdown toten and peeked outside.

Happy heart still trilled inside it’s brittle cage atreceiving something from his ever-thoughtful sister and the package wascosseted close against his chest on its journey to his bed. There carefulfingertips unwrapped the paper and admired each item in turn, a littleoverwhelmed at their sheer number. Scarlet had really gone all out. Knucklesrubbed absently at eyes as he wondered how he was ever going to be able torepay her and how he’d managed to be born into the same family as such anamazing person.

After putting his new apron away and arranging the fluffy friends atop his pillow, the big brother grabbed his coffee maker andheaded downstairs, determined to show up in person to thank her with freshcoffee and cookies.

"I just want to make someone else have a good Christmas."

Ever since Kay left, Scarlet had been quite the mess. Ophelia and Cardinal had been trying very hard for her to have a good Christmas. Their current activity involved walking around town and window shopping while enjoying all the festive lights put up everywhere. As they walked, they saw a man gathering donations for the nearby orphanage. 

The younger girl’s eyes drifted on the empty donation box, her expression wavering a bit. Noticing this right away, Ophelia bumped her slightly. “What’s with your face?” At her response, the goddess was once again thrown off by how sweet Scarlet could be, even in her own agony. Without another word, Ophelia began walking to a nearby store and returning with an armful of new toys and dumped them into the box before taking her friends arm and lead her away. “We better not see any abandoned puppies...we can’t have them at the dorm.” She grumbled, not upset about the money but how unselfish her friend was being. “I would have a good Christmas if you would only just focus on your own happiness...”
