in the end, his mother had won. she had been the one to claim that he and evelyn wouldn’t last - right! - and that he would turn out to be exactly like her and his father - also right! . he supposed that it was really up to your lineage in the end - whoever your parents had been, you couldn’t help up but being just like them. and now.. now there was miserable creature that would be born in a few months and would turn to be just like him. good god. the human race really shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce. in the end, the old hag had won and.. he didn’t know how to feel about that. mostly, he was miserable - he felt miserable both physically and mentally and had reverted back to his old habits, those of drinking until he’d passed out and smoking, something that was terribly bad for both his lungs and liver but.. who the hell cared, anyway? certainly not him. he had taken a few days off class; mostly because he wasn’t mentally ready to have to deal with teenagers again, considering everything, and spent most of his days at bottom’s up or even at one of the local pubs, as far away from the hospital as possible.
still, the people that frequented the area were quite interesting. there were the ones who were as miserable as him, the ones who just brooded and drank alone, the ones who joined the larger groups and suddenly made friends. where did he fit? somewhere in the middle. he was just there to drink but the more he drank, the more he started to want to make conversation with the people that surrounded him and one day, he did. “people really shouldn’t be allowed to get married, you know? women are just waiting for the right opportunity to stab you in the back and children... well, children drive you mad before they’re even born! the human race shouldn’t even be allowed to reproduce, because we keep on repeating the failures of past generations. ridiculous, really.” he said, to no one in particular as he drank the contents of the glass in one sip, before turning back to the waitress, asking for more.
this was going to be a long week.
