We haven't said too much actually but we wanted to quickly talk about our AU, Epitaphs, Chemistry, and Damnation!
This is a Hermitcraft (and some Empires) AU based on the world of the Mechanisms, our main special interest. If you do not know who they are, the Mechs are a (now inactive) fiction band of immortal space pirates, roaming the universe on the starship Aurora. Having fun, violence... mostly violence.
They are all immortal due to a part or more of their body being replaced by a mechanism, which is just a mechanical body part with some special significance in the eyes of the story.
This is the basis of our AU, the facts of the setting, but we've created a lot as well-- different alien species and races, plantes and homes, storylines, and more.
The Mechs albums and works are also all interpretations of folk tale or legend, mixed with film tropes, and created into a rock opera through a mix of folk, rock, jazz, and cabaret style music. The concept of drawing on existing stories and creating something new yet identifiable is something we also want to draw on, but to a much lesser extent. Characters do have a lot of basis in tropes and roles we find ourselves liking in other media (ie Scar resembling Sally Bowles from Cabaret, and Jimmy drawing directly from the Mechs, being extremely similar to the Toy Soldier.)
This is a practice for when we hopefully write our completely original novels in the future, and we are extremely excited.
Some little notes we'd like to share:
ECaD will heavily feature physical disability, plurality, and other neurodivergencies as part of its core concepts,
The main characters are the Scarverse System, who all simply go by Scar, with some little nicknames to differentiate them,
There will be a lot of death and violence, as is canon-typical for the Mechs, being immortal and all,
and, The name comes from three different Mechs songs as a fun little easter egg for ourselves! 'Epitaphs' comes from Rose Red, in the album Once Upon a Time (In Space), 'Chemistry' comes from Riddle of the Sphinx, in the album Ulysses Dies At Dawn, and 'Damnation' comes from Hellfire, in the album High Noon Over Camelot.
We hope people who read it enjoy it! Hopefully, before the end of the year, we will properly announce it with a post of artworks of all the Hermits (plus Jimmy, Lizzie, and Grumbot) in this universe, which we are currently a third of the way of completing!
Obligatory thank you to our lovely girlfriend, @carmillatism, who we found through the Mechanisms and disability almost four years ago now I think, and has always been so incredibly helpful, encouraging, and enthusiastic, about what we make. Working on this with you has been wonderful.
Check out their rendoc fic set in this universe, which they wrote extremely fucking well, here! It is really incredible, and gives a small insight into the general steampunk vibe of this world!
O chamado “Caso…
