The Ecumenical Theological Seminary was built in 1889 at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Edmund Place (Brush Park) as the First Presbyterian Church. It was designed by the prolific Detroit firm of Mason & Rice. Its muscular Richardsonian Romanesque design was modeled after Trinity Church, located in Boston's Copley Square, and designed by Henry Hobson Richardson, the man for whom the Richardsonian style was named. The facade was severely altered during the widening of Woodward in the 1930s. #Detroit #BrushPark #MidtownDetroit #RichardsonianRomanesque #RomanesqueRevival #EcclesiasticalArchitecture #VictorianArchitecture #MasonandRice #WoodwardAvenue #archi_ologie #BrickStory #RawDetroit #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #MotorCityShooters #PureDetroit313 #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #Michiganders #ThisPlaceMatters #ThisPlaceMattersDetroit #MichiganPlacesMatter (at Ecumenical Theological Seminary) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVrXDJbrA3V/?utm_medium=tumblr
