I just wanted to thank you for this blog--I started watching the show for Hugh Dancy and ended up loving it for itself. It's a show that invites conversation but nobody I know watches so thank you for this! I love every single character, all uniquely fucked up and dimensional. As an atheist who was raised Southern Baptist, I tend to shy away from anything overtly religious. But this show sneaks past that, provoking weird memories of that longing for certainty and belonging. Anyway, thanks!

Thank you for the kind words, Nonnie. I’m pretty much in the same boat - I wanted the show to be good because I want Hugh Dancy to be in things that are good and that I enjoy. 

And I’m happy to now I’m finding I enjoy it on many levels.

A second ago I read Hannibal gets a complete series auction. Does that mean season 4 wont happen? Please tell me Im wrong with this Im DYING OVER HERE! Why would they do that - will they have a complete new set with new props jfc why is this happening

Yes, there was a complete series auction, and many fannibals got a chance to acquire many awesome things from the show to love, protect, and cherish. 

It does not mean S4 won’t happen. It just means that Gaumont decided it was better to let fans have a chance to have the things rather than have them moulder in some back room they have to pay rent on. 

Given the ending of S3, Will and Hannibal are off to a new life - whole new sets and wardrobe and props will be needed anyway. 

We’re in a holding pattern for now as we wait for rights to expire and the time to be right for TPTB to be able to start up negotiations on what S4 will be. But Bryan, Hugh, and Mads all continually take every opportunity to reaffirm that they’d love to make more Hannibal. 

Our job is to not panic, but keep asking everyone we can think of to make it happen, so it’s clear the audience is here when it comes back.

What are your thoughts on Bay Area HQ's podcasts? I listened to the latest one and I thought it was pretty unprofessional to have the show's creator there and forget characters' names and where they lived and stuff. And one of the guys just laughed obnoxiously through the entire thing. Kinda felt like they were mocking it.

I haven’t listened to any beyond the 6.5 one with Jessica Goldberg, which I think is worth a listen (the link is to a transcription of some of the questions, you have to go to the podcast page to find the full interview). 

I do feel both in that interview and the video ones they did with Hugh and Aaron, that yes they are pretty lighthearted in tone, and are not the most skilled of interviewers, but I do think they respect the show. 

The question about Meyerist logo underwear, for example, was pretty silly and yet elicited both a great smile and some interesting character insight from Hugh. So they get a thumbs up from me. 

Heck, in their questions to Jessica they even referenced @theyellowsnake‘s meta, so that’s pretty cool. 

I’m not a podcast listener by nature, I’d rather read that sort of analysis (I don’t like talk radio much either, fwiw). 

The only one I’m keeping up on is the #KillerSerials and mostly because as two guys with doctorates in theology, they have some interesting insights I enjoy listening to and have a pretty good rapport with each other.

Season finale for The Path will be shown at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary (Breaking Bad series finale was shown there) on May 22. Check Cinespia web site for tickets. Coincidentally there will a showing of The Silence of the Lambs the day before (May 21).

it is absolutely manipulative but at the same time I understood Sarah a little more and her unwillingness to bend

I also like how the story is a two-fer. Not just conveying that Hawk is her miracle child, but why she would believe so completely in the power of The Medicine. 

We see that her belief in the Movement isn’t facile, stemming from not knowing anything else. From her perspective, it’s truly brought her amazing things.
