Purify by Lacuna Coil (ANY song by this band…JFC tailor made for Hannigram)“Good bye Hannibal.”
Even thinking the words had hurt. Saying them had been an agony worse than Hannibal cutting into him. At least that time, Will hadn’t had to eviscerate himself. It was the same as cutting off a gangrenous limb; you were forever damaged, forever missing something, but you got to live and rebuild.
Will had rebuilt. First his mind; Copious amounts of alcohol at first until one night he found himself sobbing because he couldn’t let go of the ground long enough to reach the next bottle on the table because he didn’t want to fall off the earth. Gentle dog tongues lapping his tears and furry bodies keeping him from freezing to death. He poured it all down the sink the next night when he could move. He told himself the tears were shame from sinking so far down. He pretended he had never sobbed Hannibal’s name the previous night.
He built motors, repaired his house, spent countless hours in his stream, both mentally and physically. His house had never been cleaner. Neither had his mind.
Next, his body; He had agreed to resume physical therapy. Being shot had rendered his shoulder all but useless for a long time. Long walks with the dogs that became long runs. Eating regularly and healthily. He was glad the first time he could eat a pork chop and only think that he should have added more pepper.
Finally, his heart. He met someone. Several someones. They did not work out but he was ok. Walter came into his life via shyly asking to pet Winston. Then Molly had come into his life, boldly asking if she could pet Winston too. Except she has asked Winston and not Will.
Will had fallen rather hard at that. Winston asked her on a date for Will. Will proposed himself though.
Will had rebuilt. Mind. Body. Heart. He was happy. He was healthy.
He clung to that as he walked through the BSHCI.
He clung to it as he sat and spoke with Alana.
He clung to it as she opened the door.
For every ♪ I get I’ll put my Ipod on shuffle and write a drabble inspired by the song that plays.
