Chapter Summary: Supergirl spends time with Alex and almost learns what it means to be human, but when she revisits Lena she only stirs up buried feelings and unwanted memories in green eyes.

She feels Supergirl drift closer, feels how her hair brushes her cheek from the nightly breeze. It’s too close, but Lena turns to face her anyway. “I have difficulties determining who you are—were—to me,” Supergirl confesses, stroking the dark tresses with the tips of her fingers. “To Kara Danvers.” The movement is curious yet methodical. Lena swallows and her eyes flutter, her lips taste more salt and she feels her heart drum against her chest, knowing the goddess can hear, but she doesn’t feel ashamed. “You are a friend and you are family. But you are also … different. Both figuratively,” Supergirl raises her palm, places it against Lena’s cheek and it’s so gentle. She caresses wet trails with her thumb, and the skin contact is electric. “And literally.”

1: I hope for your life (you forget about mine)

Chapter Summary: The transcendence ordained Kara with Rao’s essence; she’s just Supergirl, but Kara’s friends and family struggle for her recognition.

She reaches out to gently grasp Supergirl’s hand, her skin wrinkled and slightly calloused with age. Eliza wonders what it’d be like to stretch her arm out, to caress her daughter’s cheeks. She wonders if Supergirl’s skin would feel like Kara’s childhood—smooth, supple, yet wet from mourning Krypton. But Supergirl is too high from her mother’s reach. Does she still ache at the loss of her world? Is she even capable of weeping? “Come here,” Eliza beckons. Supergirl obeys, descending lower, closer. But never do her feet touch the ground. The proximity is enough though, for Eliza to stroke her girl’s jaw, to cup them in between her old hands. She remembers how small they were a decade ago, trembling with vulnerability, with a delicateness that didn’t match the powers Kara possessed. Melancholy fills Eliza’s heart, then her gaze finally travels up to meet Supergirl’s eyes, no longer a comfortable and innocent sapphire, but a harsh white glow in its place. It’s unforgivingly divine.

4: You’re dislocated (don’t be like that)

The edges of Kara’s vision blackened—if she couldn’t escape, then unconsciousness would have to do. She didn’t hear the way her name was gasped some paces away. Not even the elevator’s ding or the heavy doors that opened to taunt freedom as her past laughed and mocked her—respite was far and gone. Kara didn’t even feel the hands around her cheeks, almost as shaky as she was, wiping at the dewiness. Then her face was tilted upward. Berry-colored lips behind a darkening vignette that wasn’t fading fast enough. She held her breath, bracing for what was to come. “KARA!” No more dreaming; a sluggish yank from her tunnel vision, and at the end of her nightmare … sublime green that wrinkled with a fairytale love and affection. “L-Lena …” she murmured, her ears rang and there was a numbing sensation in her limbs. “Hey, I’ve got you.” Lena’s timbre slipped into Kara’s ears, a deep velvet seat before a warm hearth. Then a rush of delicate florals in her nostrils, the perfume was subtle, the sweetness played at her nose alongside a eucalyptus’s comforting, minty burn. Hands wrapped around her, coaxed her from her sprawl, and Kara hung onto it desperately.

Plot Summary: Kara leaves for a mission that ends catastrophically, and when she returns, she’s not herself—Kara is gone. All that’s left is Supergirl, last child of Krypton and now Rao’s successor. Lena’s convinced Supergirl is all that remains, so she closes herself off. But when she cautiously reopens at Alex’s behest, her certainty wavers after every interaction and memory they share. Then Lena finds there’s more to the tragedy, determined to bring Kara back, but Supergirl begins acting increasingly dislocated.

Chapter Summary: The Superfriends weigh in on what to do with Lena’s information, and that journey takes them to Argo City and a tribunal. And through it all, Lena looks back on some moments that painted Kara Danvers in a new light.

Kara instinctually moved a hand to her own shoulders, the action was instant, immediate in the way her compassion for others animated her. She unclipped her cape and draped it over Lena’s figure, a gentleness both intrinsic and learned under a yellow sun’s omnipotence-granting rays. The frigid tundra dissolved into fragrant heartwoods and cashmere-like warmth. Kara beamed, and no language could encapsulate how dazzling it was.

Chapter Summary: Lena is rattled from her last meeting with Supergirl, and it doesn’t help that the more they’re together, the more her memories of Kara resurface. Then Lena’s week takes a grim turn when someone tries to kill her again.

She fades, blinking at a sparkling figure darting back into the fire. Supergirl outshines the flames.

Really thought grad school would unhand me at this point in time but now I’m prepping for interviews. I’m still working on Supercorp fics no worries 😅
