Are the Clans as xenophobic towards each other as in the original series, or is it just specificaly part of the Shine-Beach conflict and StoneStar's culture?
For the most part they are, but it does vary between clans.
- SwampClan is by far the most xenophobic, but that’ll come up later on. It’s caused a lot of issues for them.
- ShineClan is second worst. It didn’t start with Stonestar either, his father Shadestar was actually more xenophobic than he was. Stonestar would readily use the perception of half-clan cats to threaten and manipulate Pinefoot, but he didn’t genuinely think it made her untrustworthy/disloyal/etc.
- BeachClan will let the occasional loner join, and they’re pretty neutral towards all the other clans except ShineClan.
- There's also one more clan, LeafClan, that is largely irrelevant to the story of Meandering. They’re the most accepting of outsiders.
Also, ShineClan (and most of the other clans) tend to have a don’t ask don’t tell mentality about inter-clan relationships, relationships with outsiders, and half-clan cats. Kind of like how it was in the earlier warriors books. If a she-cat has kittens and doesn’t reveal the father, no one will ask questions. It only becomes a “problem” if the clans in question are actively in conflict (as was the case with Hareheart and Lichentail’s parents, and Chanterelle’s parents) or it's very obvious/out in the open (which was the case with Pinestar and Dacewhisker's parents. Everyone knew about it because their father already had a mate in SwampClan, and cheated on her with Pine's mother. His actual mate got into a huge fight with Pine's mother during a Gathering and made a whole scene.).
Switching clans also generally isn't allowed. Most clans would be more likely to allow a complete outsider to join than a cat from another clan.
