SHANGHAI (DAY7)
DAY7
1/10/2017
1:30 PM
I woke up at 6:50 to get an egg tart for breakfast and I couldn't be any happier that I did. The cafe (called In the Room) is just outside of the ECNU gate, but we saw a ton of stuff along the way. A multitude of parents walking their kids to school or young adults going to work joined us on the sidewalks. I haven't seen a non-adorable child yet in China. They're all precious. Class today was once again interesting. I'm very satisfied with my choice of class and overall conversation program. The conversation programs at Olaf have yet to fail me, as Environmental Con was also a smashing success.
We actually talked about the built environment of an area and how it affects the natural environment in a variety of dramatic ways. It's only the second class we've had but it's my favorite so far. For lunch we went on an adventure to the school canteen. It was a bit of a struggle, but it was super delicious. I definitely got too much food, though. Everything looked way too yummy and my eyes ended up being bigger than my stomach.
10:23 PM
I ended up studying and listening to music for most of the afternoon. I also realized that I had an unread e-book sitting on my phone, so I took my opportunity to sit and do nothing for a while. But I promised to myself that I would see as much of the city I am in as much as possible. Otherwise why would I fly for 16 hours to do something I could do in my own country...?
I was about to just go over to the Korean restaurant to grab some quick dinner when a multitude of people knocked on our door and asked if Katie and I wanted to go to the French Concession. Not surprisingly, no one had a plan. So we figured out the subway path, got tickets for way too many people, and ended up in a much quieter part of town that we had been in before. It had a bunch of high end and name brand stores, and not many good inexpensive places to eat. There really wasn't much for us to do there besides shop. With different people and in daylight, it would've been a much more satisfying trip.
We walked for a bit before settling on a pastry shop for dinner. It was a fairly lame meal, but it satisfied the stomach. Plus, I got to try a red bean filled bun and a "cheese" bun, which of course was sweet and super tasty and tasted almost nothing like cheese. We strolled around the area for a little longer before abandoning the cold, overpriced-for-college-students area for the comfort of Jinshajiang station, convenience store ice cream, and our tiny dorm-tels. I've become terribly sleepy, so that will be all for today.
Goodnight!

McDonald’s Delivery II
This is pure heaven! It was a cloudy day and although I planned to go to Hangzhou I rescheduled because of the weather. So I stayed mostly indoors and saw some Youtube videos from some of my favorite Youtubers, such as Vanossgaming and H20Delirious! They always make me smile and laugh. I then took a stroll through the ECNU campus next door and had a good time visiting my old haunts. I bought a…

Hi everyone!
Hope you’re having lovely experiences in Shanghai! I really miss this vibrant city where I was able to meet so many wonderful people who opened my eyes to this world we live in...
Anyway, just came across a useful list on costs of living in Shanghai, just for some guidance.. http://austenmorris.company/shanghai/
Also, I forgot to mention in the last post, but during my stay in Shanghai, this little website was a big bunch of usefulness!

More recently, I have also come across some quirky news websites that help staying in touch with local Chinese news-

Hope you’re all doing well!
If I never smelled cigarette smoke again, that would be really cool.
Also, on that note, I wonder how much it would effect global climate change if everyone in China stopped smoking for a day? I wonder if a good portion of the pollution in the cities here would clean up?
