Tree-hugger in the house!
Why so much enthusiasm and interest in being eco-friendly? Regardless of the fact that I love nature?
I don't know how, why or when it started, but my fondness in saving the earth has been growing every year.
So I was sitting in my bed and contemplating on what my "perfect" bed would look like. Yes, it sounds crazy, but don't deny that you've thought of that too. ;) Well anyway, as I was starting to sketch the frame and height and stuff on my journal, it crossed my mind that this “dream bed” should be completely eco friendly.
Then, as crazy as my thoughts are, ideas came rushing out of me. Ideas not only about my bed, but about how much of an eco-freak I’ve been these past years.
(Just so you know, I’ve been sketching and typing alternately all throughout this entry.)
I thought maybe my eagerness came from the reality that saving the earth is something that I, an ordinary human, can do. The simple things we do as an individual, does make an impact larger than it may seem. That’s a fact. I’m like a penny in a coin bank, waiting for other pennies to join me until we’re substantial enough to be spent on whatever a little kid was saving for. The difference is that in this story, each penny can actually DO something about it. They can either call other pennies to jump in or increase the worth of each coin (assuming it is possible).
I hope I’m making sense here.
THIS is something I can control, something I can be a part of in soooo many ways and something that takes time.
A possible adversary to this concept? Being a medical doctor.
Don’t get me wrong. My parents are doctors. I’m just using this as a comparison.
I think I’ve emphasized this so many times but the reason why I don’t like to be a doctor is because of the idea that a life of a person depends on your decisions and the actions of your team. Yes, your partners (e.g. nurses, residents, pharmacists) still have their own choice to either go by your orders or not. BUT STILL. Despite multiple factors that may be involved, you still get to decide for your patients’ lives, medically speaking.
That, my friends, is just too much for my plate. Time is of the essence in saving lives. Judgments have to be made in minutes or even seconds. One wrong move, you may make things worse. Or even lose a life in just a snap of your fingers. That does happen. I was a nurse who practiced at the Emergency Room for quite a while. And man did it shake the nuts and bolts out of my brain.
So my point is (yes, I have one)… I may not be an everyday hero saving lives, but the least I can do for now, is to help let the present and future lives have the pleasures of living in this wonderful earthly planet.
Oh, don’t get me started on the perks of being mindful of a clean and stable environment. We’re not kids anymore. You already know what I mean. ;)
Okay, just in case you don’t and you’re interested, you can message me. I can walk you through it and we can swap/change currencies.
