The beginning bump shows the pre-disturbance, the drop is the impact of the disturbance upon the ecosystem and the final hump is the resilience and ability that an ecosystem has to overcome/absorb the impact inflicted. 

Measurements

“What can’t get measured gets managed” (Measurement includes the ability to represent the productivity inside an ecosystem).

Example: Holistically Managed (Management for whales): The complexity of ecosystems (etc), how can you measure everything?
