So I was sitting in my sociology class today and we watched this video on globalization. I know we haven’t talked in detail about it in class but we have discussed it somewhat.

What is leadership (Box 7.1)
After looking at box 7.1 I would say that being a leader in a organization (at least in my experience comes closest to statement #5 which is " The process of influencing others towards goal achievement" (OCAG 184). The reason I say this is because companies all have certain goals they need to achieve per month, per quarter, per 6 months, per year etc. A leader in an organization needs to ultimately get people to meet their individual goals so a company grows. This is also true with college and high school organizations. From the time we are first integrated into organizations we are taught to meet goals and every leader of every organization i have been in or come across has used these methods.
Disney is counting on its multifaceted reservation system to ease the way to visit Mickey Mouse and company.
I came across this article today and thought it was very interesting to see how this new technology is impacting the walt disney company as an organization. Disney has always been very innovative so I wasn't super surprised to hear about this new technology. I personally have had experience using this technology so it was interesting to read about how it is impacting disney as a company overall and its reputation in the theme park industry. The interesting thing about this technology is that it is making users very vunerable by having all of their information on their wrists. Whenever anyone swipes their band on any kind of band reader in the disney world parks the person on the other side of the computer knows your name and some basic information about you.
If you were to go someplace that had that kind of technology would you be ok with the person on the other side of the computer having this kind of information on you (why or why not)?
Would the vunerability of having everything on a wrist band stop you from going someplace with this kind of technology (why or why not)?
A Quote that stood out from the reading
No matter how interorganizational relationships are organized, they challenge our ideas about organizational communication. Traditional organizational structures were developed to simplify and minimize communication needs. In contrast, we expect interorganizational structures to be highly communication intensive" (OCAG p 170).
I thought this was interesting because I never thought about how differently certain organizations must develop and structure themselves and now after reading this I can see just how this structure impacts certain companies. I took a class a year ago where we had to analyze a company's both external and internal communications and everyone had different aspects of their chosen company's communication that were easier to find and now i'm seeing how it all connects.
Far too many companies fail to achieve their growth targets in revenue and profitability. However, the probability of achieving profitable growth is heightened
I found this interesting article that shows buisness growth strategies which reminded me of what we talked about in class the other day when we discussed different organization technologies that buisnesses use (Long-linked, mediation and intensive). I also thought it applied well to the overall concepts that we have been learning in this class about the different systems used over the years in organizational communication and how organizational communication is still growing.
Identity within an organization
"Through organizational efforts to craft identities, individuals are presented with many possible sources of personal identity. Advertising is a prime example of this. Organizations use advertising to shape their own identity while simultaneously offering individuals a resource for personal identity" (OCAG 111).
I personally found this particular quote very interesting and made me think of all the different commercials and ad campaigns I see on a daily basis and how they convey this message. I thought it was also interesting how this quote looked at organizations advertising from both the perspectives of the individual and the organization as a whole.
Thoughts on whoever tells the best story wins
When I was finishing the "Whoever Tells The Best Story Wins" I came across a quote that I found very interesting.
"Truly influential storytelling comes from the ability to step in and out of different points of view" (WTTBSTW 195) - Annette Simmons
Looking back can anyone recall a time where they actively were thinking of a point of view other than their own?
