save tonight
@ecotonebeing
Jack takes a sip from the wine bottle.
He knows he shouldn’t be drinking now- especially this late at night. Elenora watches him, doesn’t say a word. He doesn’t expect her to. The silence is more comforting than anything else, he thinks. He’d prefer to drink in silence over talking to his fiance about going to war. It’s not exactly a topic any couple wants to talk about. The looming threat of the other not coming back, the horrible loneliness...
He didn’t exactly have the guts to bring it up.
A damn coward as always. Not much has changed. Maybe seeing some combat will change that for once, yeah?
Jack took yet another sip of his wine, a rather large sip, at that. Maybe silence wasn’t the best option. Setting the bottle down on the bar counter that the two were sitting it, Jack hops off of his bar stool and turns to the radio across Elle’s candlelit dorm. He flips through the stations, eventually finding a song he liked. The song was just starting, much to his delight.
But damn, could the song be anymore fitting?
Go on, and close the curtains, ‘cause all we need is candlelight. You and me, and a bottle of wine to hold you tonight, oh.
Well we know I’m goin’ away and how I wish - I wish it weren’t so. So take this wine and drink with me, and let’s delay our misery.
This was going to be a long night if they were to “delay their misery.” And frankly, Jack didn’t seem to care.
Anything to delay being shipped to China for war.
