Mommy Mondays: Ecowasbal
As a new mother I am constantly thinking about all the toxins, pesticides and endocrine disruptors that are making their way into my little ones body. Times have changed from when the baby boomers were raised and there are more harmful pollutants in our environment that are having profound effects on our health. While the information on how to reduce our exposure is overwhelming I look out for the simple ideas and take one step at a time in an effort to eliminate these toxins from my family's life. I present to you my latest discovery, via Re-Nest, the Ecowasbal!
This laundry solution is not only cheap, it's better for the environment and almost eliminates the use of detergent. All very exciting things. Created by GreenHabits in Amsterdam, the Ecowasbal is made out of environmentally-friendly (recyclable) polypropylene plastic and instead of detergent, filled with small ceramic beads.
When these beads come into contact with water, they create ions, just like normal detergent, which reduce the surface tension of water, activate the water molecules, and release the dirt and grime from them.
Sounds something like the green cleaning solution I recently wrote about, The Ionater.
The stats on the Ecowasbal are:
- lasts for approximately 1000 washes (for the normal user about 4 years)
- works on all fabric except silk and wool
- lightly soiled clothing requires no additional detergent, 15ml (measuring spoon included) of detergent should be added to heavily soiled clothing saving approximately 80% of normal detergent use per year
While I use the recommended Dreft detergent, now that we have a child, and I always do a 2nd rinse cycle, I still worry about detergent ingredients and what effect over time they may have on my family's health. If it works, the Ecowasbal seems to eliminate 80% of the worry! That's good enough for me! Now I'll have to see if it works.
Currently, the Ecowasbal can be purchased for $37.95 at The Future Perfect. Buy yours today.
