SST 040. 1986. Das Damen from NYC. This is a reissue, originally released on Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace label. Featuring former members of NYHC band The Misguided, The Das Damen sound encompassed a number of influences, garage, punk, metal, psychedelia etc but these days I think the term Proto-Grunge suits them just fine. Six songs that are loud, heavy and most definitely worth your time.

Rudolph Grey (mostly talks Ed Wood, Jr) in the New York Times (10/3/93): “Most of his adult life (’just say I'm in my late 30's,’ he insists) Mr. Grey has existed on the tattered fringe of New York's art and music scene. Since 1972, he has been known professionally and to his friends as Rudolph Grey, a persona chosen because ‘Rudolph is colorful and Grey is sort of neutral,’ he says. He won't give his real name.”

Sightings - Through the Panama (Ecstatic Peace, 2007) This band is one of the more, in my opinion, authentic groups that got the 2000s no wave revival label. I don't think anyone was asking for it but that label became trendy for a time. Sightings never ceased to impress. They were made of the standard guitar, bass, and drums set up but you would be hard pressed to find the normal sounds coming out of their respective instruments. This album sounded cleaner than previous ones but is still much noisier than most of their peers. Good Walker Brothers cover too. 0129
