Math Calaveras 2022
Mathober Day 31: Unity
Not really on that theme, but the last two years (2021, 2020) I've ended Mathober with a Jorge Posada inspired tribute to mathematicians. This year I'm also stealing from Matisse!
This year three significant math educators passed away.
Ed Dubinsky was the originator of the APOS, action process object schema, framework and early studier of undergraduate math education. Bob Kaplan was a Harvard mathematician who started the Math Circles movement with his spouse Ellen. Jerry Becker ran a math teacher educator listserv for decades that was the first great electronic connection among us, and did ground breaking research studying comparisons and contrasts between US and Japanese mathematics teaching.
