I'm reading my ed psych book rn and there's a good section on "private speech" which is the way that kids talk themselves through problems which normally switches to internal thought at some point and all I'm thinking about is Deku's mumbling omg

i’ve been drawing little angry bakugos in my ed psych notes whenever a concept is so obviously him that remembering the association will help me study, and my most recent tiny kacchan is for performance goals which are goals that are set not for any sort of personal fulfillment but solely to Be The Best TM and have other people see that

one thing that i appreciate about effective and mature fandom discourse (which is... admittedly rare.... but DOES occur) is that it is deliberative instead of disputative. while there are benefits to disputative arguments and the skills that you acquire creating your own argument, understanding and then attempting to dispute someone else’s, i think that deliberative arguments are more effective and tend to arrive at more nuanced conclusions. (at least when the two people are close enough emotionally or conceptually that they want to arrive at the same conclusion) 

deliberative arguments focus more on trying to find the right answer together than trying to prove one person right or wrong. the two people collaborate by comparing, contrasting and evaluating the alternatives and then they try to arrive at a new conclusion together. that’s the sort of arguments you get when people are on the same page about working together to try to reach the best possible conclusion.

I think that a really important aspect to remember about the confirmation bias is that it only applies when you both 1. Seek evidence to support your already held opinion and 2. ignore any conflicting evidence. Seeking evidence to support your opinion isn't automatically a bad thing as long as when you find evidence that contradicts it you're willing to consider it critically, gather more evidence, and form your new conclusions critically and not just according to the bias you had going into the research.
