Marquis Johnson, aka Beazi, kisses his daughter, Zariyah, good-bye before her first day of Kindergarten at Prescott Elementary School in the Lower Bottoms neighborhood of West Oakland. Johnson attended Prescott Elementary when he was a child from pre-k to 5th grade. . I met Beazi through a mutual friend who I asked to connect me with local rappers in The Bottoms about five years ago when he was working on his mixed tape “Testimony of a Hustla”. Beazi grew up in The Bottoms ringed by the East Bay freeways and sandwiched between the public housing of Acorn and Campbell Village. . Beazi is the father of five, four girls and one boy. He’s a devoted father. He’s also a hustler. Over the years I’ve followed him from Oakland to Sacramento and back. He moved to Las Vegas this past summer after being displaced by the rising cost of housing in the East Bay. . To see more from this story visit my website. .
