An: I watched BSB again this morning for a laugh and bc I love it so much. Just getting this out to save for later when I write again.

When his mother said she was worried about Eddie, Max assumed the kid finally loosened up and was maybe sleeping off a ragging hangover from the night before.

It’s the point of college anyway, right? To get wasted and do what you want without your parents prying eyes?

Besides, Max had enough of his own shit to worry about. He was a fucking vampire, a vampire - well, it wasn’t so bad. After years in Romania he was pretty alright with it, being a vampire was actually bad ass.

But, he kept it from his family all this time and now he not only had to tell them, but he was send on an instant mission to Sunnydale to see why Eddie wasn’t returning calls.

It’s only been three days. But they always smothered Eddie anyway, Max was glad his brother picked a school farther away, maybe the kid could finally be himself out in the wild.

…

When Max arrived on campus, he could instantly sense something was off about this town. For one, the scent of vampires and demons was everywhere - he didn’t know how all these humans seemed so oblivious to it.

Max goes to eddies dorm room first, it’s as expected. Clean, nerdy, boring, full of books. But then he finds something weird. The scent of blood leads him to a well hidden mini fridge. When he opens it, he finds blood bags.

“What the fuck -?”

He quickly turns around and to see Eddie in the door way, a stake in his left hand. His brown eyes wide. Then relief washes over his face.

“Oh man,” Eddie exhales, “I thought a vampire broke into my room. Hey Max!”

Max crooks his brows. “Little bro.”

Eddie looks around and closes the door, “I still smell vampire though …I know I sound crazy just…so much happened since ….” He looks under the bed.

Max watches closely. He still smells vampire too, and it’s not his scent.

Then it hits him.

It’s Eddie.

Eddie is a goddamn vampire.

“Bro!” Max yells. Eddie jumps and twists to look back at Max with a startled look on his face, “they got you too?”

Confused, Eddie stands up, “what?”

“Vampires! You know, “ Max shows his fangs. Eddie unknowingly raises the stake and drops his fangs too, he quickly raises a hand to cover his mouth, “hey! Put that away.” Max takes the steak from his brother.

Max busts out laughing a second later at the shock of Eddie face, “you? A vampire? What the hell. I mean me, I get it. I’m cool-“ Max goes over to the mini fridge and takes a blood bag. He taste it, then spits it out with disgust, “ how do you drink this shit?” He tosses it, Eddie catches the bag before it hits the floor, “but you? You’re like…book nerd. Anyway -“

“Could you lower your voice? I don’t really want the whole dorm to know I’m a vampire.” Eddie whispers the word.

Max shrugs, “own it dude. It might make you cooler! That’s shits gross, let’s go out and eat someone!” He nods with excitement.

Horrified, Eddie takes a step back, “no way.” He innocently drinks the rest of the blood bag.

Max plops down on the bed with a disappointed sigh, “only you can make being a vampire pg-13,” he looks around the room, “so, you tell mom?”

“Oh god, no,” panicking Eddie sits at his desk. The idea alone gives him anxiety, “no.”

“Cool,” Max grabs a pillow and tosses it at Eddie, “let’s just not tell her.”

“Yeah, sure. Good plan.” Eddie throws the pillow back, hitting Max in the face.

Max grins, “was that aggression I sensed? Ohhhh, maybe being a vampire will make you cooler.”

Eddie sighs and turns his desk light on, “I have to study. I have a test tomorrow.”

Max inmates him, “you’re the genius remember. I bet you can ace the test high as a kite. No studying. I’m bored, I came all the way out here. We are going out!”

A little getaway

Human! Eddie btvs x f reader fluff

An: This takes place a little later in time, Eddie and reader are now seniors in college, and not freshmen. I couldn’t find the exact gif of a younger PP that I wanted, but this will do. 

With finals around the corner and the mounting pressure of graduation, Eddie decided it would be nice to take a weekend away. On the drive up to the cabin, in between the moments of conversion and shared smiles, Eddie found himself thinking about the first time you met.

Only days into freshman year, he wasn’t familiar with the map yet and got lost on campus once more. This wasn’t uncommon, many freshmen wandered around wide eyed but that night he bumped right into you, like two stars meeting in the sky.

Your conversation, though short, stuck with him and Eddie was instantly smitten with you. From that night on, you’d meet and talk about books, music, life; over the course of these friendly little meetings, Eddie finally built up the courage to ask you out and much to his relief, you said yes.

That was almost four years ago now. Everytime Eddie steals a quick glance of you before focusing on the road again, he thanks the stars for bumping into you that night and feels deep gratitude for all your beautiful moments in between then and now.

It was a full day. After arriving at the cabin, you took a little hike then returned to clean up before dinner. You cooked a meal together and relaxed in the living room after Eddie returned with more wood for the fire.

The crisp air seeps into the cabin as the temperature drops lower than expected, but with the fire and the warm blanket draped across your bodies, you know you won't be chilled for much longer.

Once the hot chocolate cools a little, Eddie reaches over to the side table and hands you a mug. As your fingers touch, Eddie notices how cold your hands are.

“Oh no,” Eddie leans in and places a kiss on your fingers as you take the mug with both hands, “your hands are cold.”

You free one hand and lightly place it against his cheek, “I’m warming up as we speak.”

Eddie leans into your touch and smiles, “okay, but, let me know if you need another blanket.”

“I’ll be fine,” you return the smile and bring the mug closer, the steam feels good on your skin, “we better stay close.”

Eddie chuckles and grabs his mug. You lean into him with a soft sigh as you both take a sip from your mugs.

Book Club Part III: More to Life Than Austen

Author’s Note: Book Club is back from the dead! This mini-installment is mostly filler, set a few weeks after Kindred Spirits. I’m trying to give Reader and Eddie’s relationship a little more dimension before I get into the big plot stuff in the next installment (Coming this weekend? Maybe?)

Summary: Eddie invites you over for a movie night, and you realize something you’ve been missing.

You arrived at Eddie’s dorm at exactly seven o’clock, too anxious to pace around your dorm room any longer than you already had. Now that you were here, you opted to linger in the hallway for a few minutes rather than knock on the door and announce your arrival, hesitant to seem too eager. 

Was this a date? Did you want it to be?

From the hallway, you could smell the buttery scent of popcorn coming from the other side of the door. You wiped your hands against the sleeves of your sweater, the sweat on your palms making you even more uncomfortable on top of your nerves. Taking a deep breath and trying to slow your nervous heartbeat, you raised your hand to knock on the door. 

You barely made contact with the door before it swung open, and your eyes immediately met with a pair of warm brown ones. 

“Hi,” You greeted quickly, startled by his sudden appearance. Eddie was smiling, clearly excited to see you, and it eased your nerves a bit. You’d never hung out with Eddie like this before, outside of your little book club. Sometimes it felt like he didn’t really exist outside of the pocket of time and space the two of you had carved out for yourselves. 

“Hey, you,” He breathed out with a chuckle, making the butterflies in your stomach flutter. “Didn’t mean to scare you.” 

“That’s okay,” You replied, shaking your head dismissively. You were more than used to Eddie’s habit of appearing out of nowhere. “Am I late?”

“You’re right on time. I was just about to take the popcorn out of the microwave. Come on in.” He stepped aside, allowing you through the doorway. Your eyes sweep over the room as you step inside. You suspected that he’s cleaned it up a bit in honor of your visit. The bed was made and the laundry was put away, and there’s a couple of sodas from the vending machine sitting on his desk next to a pile of books and papers. You recognized the psychology textbook as the same one you had sitting on your own desk. It feels homey and familiar in a way that you can’t quite describe, except that it simply feels like Eddie. 

“Did you get the movie?” You asked, perching yourself on the edge of the bed as he shook the bag of popcorn into a bowl. The television was on, the tape in the VCR already rewound and paused at the beginning of the film. 

“I did,” Eddie confirmed, coming to sit beside you. “You’re sure you’re okay with it?”

You nodded, trying to put on a brave face. The ‘it’ in question was this year’s latest horror movie release. It wouldn’t have been your first choice for movie night, but Eddie seemed excited about it and you couldn’t say no to those puppy dog eyes. 

“Really? Because we can always go back to the video store and find something else. I think they have Mansfield Park-” 

“Eddie, it's fine,” You promise, his concern for you making his nervous rambling all the more endearing. “I promise. Life can’t be all Austen all of the time, right?” 

He eyed you skeptically, raising his eyebrows. “Are you feeling alright? Do you need to go to the hospital?” 

“Very funny, Eddie,” You replied, rolling your eyes playfully. “Just play the movie.” 

The movie isn’t half as scary as promised, but both of you hide your eyes behind your fingers during the suspenseful scenes and giggle when the other grows jumpy during the particularly tense moments. When the credits finally rolled, both of you were left breathless with laughter and shaking with nervous, adrenalized energy. You hoped that nights like would grow more and more common, your little book club easily translating into a full fledged friendship. Something more, maybe, if you were being completely honest with yourself. You liked Eddie, and you were beginning to suspect that he feels the same. 

You looked over at him, the both of you having shifted closer to one another throughout the movie. It would be so easy to relax into one another, rest your head on his shoulder and allow him to wrap his arm around you. If you’d only turn your palm over, you could intertwine your hand with his. The proximity felt natural, comfortable. Safe. You found Eddie looking back at you, your stomach twisting with nerves as you both moved in closer, just a fraction of an inch. 

Jane Austen couldn’t help you now. In all of her novels, there were no passages on lover’s shared breaths, or soft lips or entangled tongues. There were certainly no guidelines for what to do when the guy you liked looked like he might kiss you on his bed in his dorm room after watching one of the most ridiculous horror films you’ve ever seen in your life and you feel like your heart is going to beat right out of your chest. 

There was definitely nothing in her collected works about how to console yourself later when you find yourself pulling away, dropping his gaze like a coward, and allowing the moment to pass in tense silence. 

Maybe there was more to life than what Jane Austen could teach you after all.

You had only been at the University of California, Sunnydale for a week, but you were already homesick. Living in the dorms wasn’t quite what you had thought it would be; you had yet to become BFFs with your roommate and had taken to hiding out in one of the courtyards on campus whenever possible, if only just for a bit of peace and quiet. Ever since move-in day, it seemed that the parties and music had been going non-stop. 

You had told your parents that you didn’t need to be here. You had been born and raised near Sunnydale, after all. You could simply stay at home, sleeping in your own bed, and drive yourself to and from classes each day; it would have been more comfortable for you. However, they had insisted that you needed the “complete college experience” and had promptly kicked you out of the nest when they dropped you off last week. 

And that brought you to where you were now, a darkened courtyard in the middle of the night, the only place that you had been able to hear yourself think for the better part of a week. Even the library had seemed too lively for you. You liked it here, though, breathing in the fresh air and looking up at the stars. You’d brought a flashlight and your favorite worn paperback copy of Pride and Prejudice along for your outing. You felt a bit like a child again, reading by flashlight in the dead of night, as if your mother or father would catch you at any moment and insist that you put your book away and go to sleep. 

But there was no one here, at least no one that you could see. Leaning back against the tree trunk, you tucked your knees up to your chest, balancing the book against them, clicked on your flashlight, and immersed yourself in Austen’s words…

Your break from reality didn’t last long, though. You hadn’t read more than a chapter or two before you heard the rustling of twigs snapping underfoot. You looked up from your novel, your heart racing as you immediately thought back to every episode of Dateline and Unsolved Mysteries that you had ever watched. Why were you an idiot? This is exactly how-

You didn’t have much time to go down that path of self-scolding, as a shadowy figure appeared across the courtyard. 

To his credit, he didn’t look like a serial killer. Maybe- not that you had met any for yourself. Actually, maybe he did-

His head swiveled around, landing on you immediately. While his actions told you that he had been aware of your presence, there still seemed to be a hint of surprise on his face when he looked at you. 

Like an idiot, you raised your hand in a half-hearted wave, unsure of what to do now that he had acknowledged your presence. If he was, in fact, a potential murderer, then you supposed it would at least benefit you to observe common courtesies. He seemed to hesitate for a moment as if debating whether to approach you or flee; he appeared to decide on the former. 

When he came closer, you became certain that you had never seen him before. He was tall and lanky, with neat, dark hair and wide brown puppy dog eyes. He was instantly likable, the softness of his appearance telling your mind that he was not a threat without needing much evidence to indicate that it was the truth. Trust him, the voice inside of your head seemed to say.

Eddie tucked his hands into his pockets, ducking his head as he slowly walked over to you. He could still feel the panic in his bones at the sight of his clawed fingers and fanged mouth. It had taken a few hours, but he thought that he could control it now that he had fed. Fed. His stomach turned at the word. 

You weren’t supposed to be here. You were supposed to be the person he’d sat exactly one row behind and one seat to the left of on the first day of Psychology 105. He’d entertained the idea of potentially developing the slightest of crushes on you for the better part of that hour-long lecture, spending much more time watching your look of concentration as your pen glided across the pages of your notebook than actually taking notes himself. He could tell that you were shy, like him, and he’d noticed that you’d had your nose stuck in a book right up until the professor had walked through the door to begin their lecture. 

You weren’t supposed to be here. Not here, in the middle of the night with… vampires lurking about the campus. Not when he was just as much of a threat to you as any of them. 

But it was like a magnet was pulling him towards you. Part of his newfound vampire status, he’d discovered, was that he had much more difficulty managing his impulses than he’d had as a human. He tried to tell himself that he simply wanted to help you, to make sure that you found your way back to your dorm safely, but he knew that it was more than that. You were pretty and smart, and here, and Eddie was lonely and more than a little freaked out by the past few days. He had wanted to talk to you, ever since you’d sat down in front of him in Professor Walsh’s class, and that was more than enough for his new, impulsive vampire brain to decide that tonight was the night he was finally going to do it. 

“H-hi there,” Eddie spoke hesitantly. Apparently becoming a member of the undead had not done anything to help his awkwardness around girls. If his heart was still beating, it would have been pounding in his chest as you smiled up at him kindly. 

“Hi,” you echoed. 

“What are you reading?” He asked, cringing to himself internally. You’re hanging out here in the middle of the night and he strikes up a conversation about books. 

You wordlessly hold up the cover of the novel for him to read. 

“Is it any good?” He asked. Eddie was a romantic at heart, and he had most definitely read the novel before, but he’d much rather hear you talk about it. 

“It’s Jane Austen,” You laughed softly- God, you had a beautiful laugh-, “Of course it’s good. It’s my favorite.”

Eddie was struck by the way that you didn’t seem to be afraid of him, your eyes alight as you gave your succinct review of the novel. 

“Of Human Bondage,” He found himself saying. His eyes went wide as your lips twitched into a frown and your eyebrows drew together. “Oh, it’s not—“ He choked out, reading your facial expression. “I didn’t mean that. It’s just this novel—“

Your expression immediately softened when you noticed how flustered he’d become at the thought that he had offended you in some way.  

“I know that,” You giggled. “I’ve read it. Part of it, anyway.”

“You have?” He was hardly able to hide his excitement, the first spark of joy he’d felt since he’d awoken a monster. He had to remind himself not to let his emotions get out of hand; the last thing he needed was to morph into Count Dracula in front of you and scare you off. 

You nodded in response to his question, and he took it as an invitation to plop himself down on the ground in front of you, the action a bit awkward with his long legs.

“I’ve read it like ten times,” He gushed, “I always keep it right by my bed.” He rarely got a chance to talk about the item he’d once dubbed his security blanket. At least, not with anyone who knew what he was rambling on about. 

“I can understand why,” You nodded with mock-sympathy, biting back a smile. “Maugham has put me to sleep on several occasions.”

A scoff escaped from his chest, a grin on his lips at her good-natured teasing. 

“It’s a coming-of-age novel,” Eddie protested lightly. “They’re supposed to be a little boring.”

“So is Jane Eyre, but I don’t use Brontë to help me to sleep at night.”

He shook his head in disbelief, extending his hand towards her and hoping that she would attribute the lack of body heat to the cool night air, “I’m Eddie.” 

You gave him your name in return, saying nothing about the temperature as you shook his hand. You were a mystery to him. Though you’d appeared so quiet and shy when he’d seen you before, you seemed to transform before his eyes as you spoke about your passions. Of course, Eddie thought to himself, A girl finally notices me, and I’m a walking corpse.

You didn’t know how much time the two of you had spent talking; talking about books, about your dreams after school, about your lives before you’d gotten here. It was the first time that you had felt like you belonged here all week. It was nice to know that you weren’t the only one who’d had difficulty adjusting to college life. 

You found that Eddie was easy to talk to; he was kind and thoughtful, and clearly a dreamer, despite his plain clothes and conservative appearance. Something told you that he was holding something back, though, something that he was afraid to tell you. You didn’t mind, exactly; you had been perfect strangers only a few hours ago. What troubled you was the way that whatever it was seemed to eat away at Eddie. You could tell that he was lonely; that wasn’t uncommon for college freshmen. Maybe he was just homesick, like you. 

When the sky began to hint that the sun would soon peak over the horizon, Eddie untangled his legs from the pretzel he had tucked them into, brushing off his pants and offering you a hand to help you up. You took it without hesitation, noting that it seemed colder than you’d expected. That little voice seemed to nag at you again. What was wrong with Eddie?

You said your goodbyes solemnly, both of you reluctant to end the evening, but knowing that the sunrise would come soon enough and bring along the bustling student body with it. Without needing to say anything, you seemed to understand that, whatever was going on with him, this little impromptu book club was meant to be confined to the shadows. 

“Hey, Eddie?” You ask, just as he’d broken off from the bike path to disappear into the trees. He whipped his head around to look at you, almost tripping himself in the progress. You shake your head, unable to hold back a smile at his adorable awkwardness. 

“Same time next week?”
