Summary:
It's been a year since Eddie's life changed. A year of knowing that monsters exist outside of D&D. A year of trying to get his life back to a semblance of normality now that he knows. It's been a year, and now Eddie stands at Chrissy's grave.
this was written for @thefreakandthehair's spicy six spring challenge for the prompt "Grass stains. Typical."
The first and the last fight Eddie and Ana had
In a short few months they were together Eddie and Ana never had even a small disagreement. Their relationship was nice. Yes, nice was the only word anyone would describe it. Just plain nice. Perhaps it seemed perfect because it was new, perhaps it was because none of them wanted to scare each other off, so they played the role of a perfect partner whenever they were together.
Anyway, when the first voiced disagreement finally happened, naturally it was about parenting. Because as much as Eddie tried to be respectful, polite and keep his preferences and opinions to himself, he would never stay silent when someone challenges his abilities as a parent.
Eddie and Ana got into an argument concerning Buck and their parenting of Christopher. About how Buck finds and encourages outdoor activities for Chris, which Ana believes are too dangerous for the kid with CP. Never mind that it's all researched thoroughly and approved by doctors.
Why Eddie allows it?
She oversteps, and it all spiraled the moment Eddie called Christopher our son while speaking of Buck:
Eddie: How we raise our son is none of your concern *coldly*
Ana: I'm sorry, did I hear this right? Our son? Are you kidding me right now? *outraged*
Eddie: Yes, our. You know, at the start of this relationship you assumed there was no one since Shannon, that I've been raising Chris alone. Well, this is far from the truth. I had help from my Abuela and tia, my family from 118 but most importantly I had Buck. Evan has been Christopher's other dad for years. He was there for us since our move here when we were just mere acquaintances and I've never been more grateful for having this incredible man in our life. So I don't appreciate you criticizing our way of parenting, especially when no one even asked you.
Ana thought that eventually she would step in as a parent in Christopher’s life, when Eddie never gave her any indication that it will ever happen. Yes, she is his girlfriend (not for a long, though). But even if things between them got serious, she would never be a step-mother. This was never about finding another mother for Christopher, despite what others might think. His son already had a mom, and now he has two dads and that was it. Buck is his co-parent, no one will take his place. It might be a little unconventional but that's how their family works.
Truth be told, he wasn't sure about asking her out after the fiasco with skateboard at school and how it was handled and the things that were said. But Eddie gave Ana the benefit of the doubt, which turns out was a mistake on his part. She hasn't changed at all.

He thinks about the list more and more. He wants a new dryer, some new clothes, for Christopher to think he’s cool again. He wants to pay the truck off, to fly his sisters out for a visit. He wants – He wants to be happy. He wants a partner, he wants to be seen, he wants to feel like he has someone who can read his mind and knows his next move before he’s even decided to make it. He wants someone who loves Christopher as much as he does and doesn’t mind that Eddie’s a little screwed up, who doesn’t see him as a problem to be solved. He wants to be loved because, not despite. He wants, wants, wants.
I do not have the worst to articulate how much I love these kinds of Eddie fics, just know that I am like vibrating in my seat with how much I adore this fic

Marisol clearly doesn’t know, she definitely doesn’t understand, and her brow furrows as she opens her mouth to probably ask another question about why Eddie’s deferring parenting to his single, childless best friend.
I cannot imagine being Marisol and just seeing your boyfriend’s big golden retriever of a best friend around every fucking corner
