I am back with the requests!! Sorry for the delay, I got sidetracked. 😳
This is a request from @puffmunch-queen Eden Era Aziraphale and Crowley!!
----
This is the first time I've drawn them in the Eden era! I got frustrated trying to figure out Aziraphale's outfit. I'm not sure if this is how it should look .
Anyway, I don't know about you, but I think the background turned out really well. 😁
@goodomensafterdark
I'm been really busy with very little to show for it lately but I still got a few pieces of fan art being slowly worked on! :3 Walking the line with this one tho X'D
Written for the @flashfictionfridayofficial prompt "expand through horizons." Title is a lyric from Look Long, a wonderful song by the wonderful Indigo Girls.
On the Wall, an angel and a demon stare down and out at the expanse of sand stretching east of Eden. Celestial vision is keener than that of humans, but even to their eyes, Adam and Chava are mere dots in the distance now: twin specks of life, illuminated by the distant blaze of a flaming sword, nearly lost in the rolling desert. Even the marks of their passing are only barely visible in the damp sand, footprints mostly washed away by the rain that only recently let up.
“What will they do,” says Aziraphale quietly, “when they get to the edge?”
“The edge?” Crawly echoes.
“Of the earth.”
“Oh.” The demon frowns, looking ahead to where the land does indeed seem to come to an abrupt cutoff; nothing but a backdrop of cloudy sky beyond. “I thought it wasn’t supposed to have an edge. Was supposed to be round. No end.” He pauses. “Well, a different kind of end eventually, I guess. But not the geographical kind.”
“Well, there certainly seems to be an edge out there.”
“Yeah.” Crawly shrugs. “Maybe they changed the blueprint. Been a while since I saw it.”
“...Ah.”
There’s not much to be said to that, so they stand in silence. Watching, watching, watching, as the minuscule figures dwindle further, further, further…
The angel lets out a gasp, a half-shout of shock and dismay. “They fell off!”
Crawly is craning forward with just as much alarm, gazing in horror over the desert plane to the place where the humans did indeed evidently drop over the edge mere moments ago. “Why… but… they…”
Neither of them suggests it, there’s no discussion or conscious decision-making, but suddenly they’re both plunging forward off the wall, wings spread side by side, racing aloft towards that disappearing edge of the earth.
They’re faster in flight than humans are on foot, though what exactly their intention is — are they going to try to catch the Man and Woman from the vacuum of space? — neither of them had time to give any thought. But it doesn’t matter. Because as they head towards that precipice…
“It’s not getting closer,” Crawly realizes aloud.
“It’s not?” Aziraphale says, and then, “it’s not.”
They fly onwards, now baffled as much as anything else, gaining on the barely-visible track below yet not on the looming edge of the earth.
And then, suddenly, there they are again: Chava and Adam, sword a little lower than when they set out but still there lighting their way. The two of them, together, toiling on towards the still-distant horizon as if nothing happened at all.
The demon and angel slow, then stop altogether, hovering. They look at each other.
“I think,” Aziraphale says slowly, “there may be more to Earth than meets the eye.”
Crawly nods, his own yellow eyes wide. “We’ll have to get to know it better.”
The angel nods in his turn.
And below, the first humans make their laborious way onwards, expanding through hitherto unknown horizons.
One way to thwart a demon was to get him laughing so hard that he forgot he didn’t have to breathe. Figuring out what would reduce Crawly to that state was a bit harder, but he was getting the hang of it. His laugh had scared him the first few times. Snakes might be silent, but the Serpent of Eden was anything but.
Right now his hereditary enemy was laying in the grass, gasping. Aziraphale had remembered he didn’t need to breathe, so his laughter was silent. Just a bit of wiggle to body to show his mirth.
“Ic!” It was accompanied by a whole body twitch. Crawly stayed tensed.
“Are you alright?”
Crawly started to inhale and made a full body squeak instead. He whipped his head around to look at Aziraphale. “No!”
It was followed by another “IC!” noise, even louder than before. Aziraphale bit his lip, trying not to laugh.
“What’s happening? Did you DO something!?!” Crawly scrambled to his feet, panting.
“No. No. Have you not had hiccups before?”
“wh..HIC!”
“That happens with humans sometimes if they eat too fast or laugh too hard.”
There was another undignified squeak from Crawly. “Make it stop!”
“Sit back down, calm yourself. Breathe easy.”
“I don’t need to breathe!”
“You could just stop then..”
Crawly seemed to be focusing intently on that. Which was interrupted by another full body squeak. Crawly hissed out breath in irritation and promptly shook again, though now with no air to make noise with.
“Here, I saw Eve fix it a few times. Sit down. Do as I say. You’ll be fine.”
Crawly sat down, shoulders drawn up around his ears. Which promptly twitched with another spasm.
“Pull your chest to your knees and lean forward.”
“Bodies are WEIRD. I didn’t want one!” Crawly yelled at the sky.
“Well you have one regardless, so, just calm down.”
“I am calm!” The tenseness of his back said otherwise.
“Here, let me…” He hovered his hand over Crawly’s neck. He’s been near the demon but never actually touched him. Crawly twitched again, making a strangled gasp as he tried to hold in the noise.
Crawly rocked forward, curling himself up against knees, looking small and a bit scared. “Do… whatever. Make it stop.”
Aziraphale carefully laid his hand on the back of Crawly’s neck, feeling the tension there. He wasn’t sure what he’d expected, but he felt so… human. He could feel that bit of demonic power under skin, but carefully kept inside the body that Crawly himself was frightened of right now.
He slowly stroked it along Crawly’s neck and between his shoulder, murmuring the same nonsense syllables he’d heard Eve use on Cain. The spasms slowly abated, but with the way Crawly was leaning into him, a bit longer wouldn’t hurt.
“There. All settled. That wasn’t so bad?” He patted Crawly and withdrew his hand
“Bodies are weird.” He glanced over shoulder at Aziraphale. “But I guess I can get used to it.”
