He's so pretty..
That was the first thing Dream thought when he saw this stranger. He hadn't ever seen another person besides his mother before and especially not one so pretty.
Dream gulped, feeling a tad flustered from how pretty this person was. "U-Uhm.. Hello?" Dream greeted, taking a step closer to him. This person tilted his head, his neutral expression softening, "Hello." He replied.
Dream felt his face flush more—oh.. his voice was very smooth and deep. Dream really liked it.. He brought himself out his stupor to continue interacting with.. gosh, he really needs to learn his name.
"Hi! Again... My name is Dream!! What's yours?" Dream chirped out happily, staring up at the person, waiting for an answer.
"My name is Nightmare."
Dream blinked in surprise, "Oh! That's a nice name!! We match!!" He spoke with a giggle. He thought it was a funny coincidence. What are the chances of meeting someone for the first time who also has a name similar to your own?
"It seems we do."
Dream glanced at Nightmare to see a slight smile present on his face. Dream wanted to see more of that, it was so pretty. He wanted to see a full wide smile on Nightmare's pretty face.
"Yeah!! Where'd you come from??" Dream questioned, his curiosity blatantly showing through. No care for decorum in the slightest.
Dream didn't know there were other people, he hadn't ever been here before. What if there were more in the area behind Nightmare? He really wanted to know! Surely Nightmare here could tell him?
Nightmare stared at him for a few seconds, as if debating what to say before glancing behind himself and pointing to the dark area located there. "I came from a bit aways past this forest." He answered but didn't give Dream any time to respond or ask another question before following up with, "And what about you?"
"Oh! I came from there!!" Dream stated, pointing behind himself much like Nightmare had done earlier, his earlier question having completely slipped from his mind.
Dream wasn't very specific about where he came from, but he was sure Nightmare understood. Dream came searching over here in the first place because it was darker, something Dream hadn't seen in his centuries of existence!
Dream was really interested in the forest behind Nightmare though—as well as Nightmare himself—it was dark, which Dream didn't really like because he didn't like not being able to see, as he's just learned. But his curiosity overpowered that small fear.
Dream was going to start walking past Nightmare to go ahead and look—maybe he'd find more people!—but was promptly held back by Nightmare picking him up from under his arms. Nightmare seemed surprised by his own decision, but Dream didn't pay too much attention to that as he squirmed in Nightmare's hold.
"H-Heyy!!" Dream whined, though he didn't really try to get out of Nightmare's grip. He honestly didn't mind being up this high.. It was fun to kick his legs when they weren't touching the ground. But he didn't like being stopped so randomly!! "Why'd you pick me uppp?" He continued to whine, looking for answers.
"You shouldn't go there."
"Well, why not?"
"It's not safe."
"Nonsense!!" Dream immediately argued despite the fact that he knew nothing of this new area and couldn't attest to its safety. He hadn't even known of its existence until today.
Nightmare sighed, resting Dream down back on the ground. "Please take my advice, little one. It is not safe without proper knowledge of the area." Dream pouted, disappointed—both from being set down and Nightmare's words—but he slowly nodded. "Okayy.."
Nightmare was silent for a few seconds before he spoke up again, "I can guide you through on another day, if you'd like." Dream perked up immediately, nodding quickly—excited to show his agreement. "Yes! Yes!!"
Dream thought that Nightmare was super nice. He knows the area is dangerous, and he said he'd take him through it anyway. Dream thought it was really sweet. He wasn't used to actually being allowed to do something after a first denial. If his mother limited something, then that was that! Dream had no say in the matter but this? This was different.
Dream beamed at Nightmare, who in turn gave him another small smile. Dream thought that expression suited Nightmare much more than a neutral one. He still wanted to see Nightmare's face with a wide grin, though.
"..Now what?" Dream asked, if he couldn't explore new land then what was he to do?
"What would you like to do?"
"Hmm.. make a flower crown! I think you'd look really pretty with one made from these!!" Dream answered Nightmare's inquiry, grabbing the lone flower he plucked earlier to show Nightmare what he wanted to make the crown with. The flower had ended up falling out of Dream's grasp when he was previously picked up. It was slightly scuffed but Dream still adored it. It was so pretty.. and the way it lit up was super pretty too!
Nightmare seemed a bit surprised by the suggestion, but he did not deny Dream, instead giving him a single nod. "Okay, that sounds good." He voiced his agreement, making Dream beam once more.
Dream giggled, oh, he was really excited now! He grabbed Nightmare's hand and dragged him over to the bushes that held flowers like the one he plucked earlier. He looked up at Nightmare, giving him a wide grin.
"C'mon! Help me pick some!!"
"Okay."
It was one single word in response, but Dream could hear the amusement in Nightmare's voice, and something else too that he couldn't quite pin down.
