Library of Black Lies by Edgar Arceneaux ( @edgar_three ) is like a partial biblical ark described in the Bible, although inside is a disproportionate and convoluted emotion of experience. It gives a sense of hitting a brick wall, crawling through a labyrinth that expands and contracts in space, yet faced with tricky mirrored reflections. Within the art installation of Arceneaux are charred volumes of books, some encrusted with crystalline material, the whole experience reminds me of a simulacrum, an idea of something, but, not quite the truth. Arceneaux presents to question on the idea of the American story, through the identity of Black Americans. We sort of created a lyrical and enchanting story of the American ideal, freedom fighters, democracy and equal rights, these ideas are taught in our schools and written in our history books. But is it really "REAL"? #edgararceneaux | 📸 #jamespaulancheta (at DTLA Arts District)
