Edgewood Challenge: AU
Children of the Gods
Dominic and his siblings knew about monsters from a very young age. Their mother, Katherine, did a very good job of hiding, but they still had to move frequently. So there wasn’t much room for a normal childhood as the Kingsley siblings had to learn quickly how to defend themselves, and there were always strange things happening around them. The shadows seemed to speak to Dominic, but he always tried to ignore them.
Finally when Dominic was twelve, he learned about Camp Half Blood. He and Charlotte had been running from a monster when a kid barely older than him killed it with a glowing sword. The kid told them about camp and that they must be demigods. Dominic confronted his mother, who admitted that he and his siblings were demigods, but still shared no more about their father. She also refused to let them go to camp, and the next day she announced they were moving again, far from the East Coast.
Dominic knew that he had to protect his siblings and Mom couldn’t do it forever, so he took Charlotte and Bridgette and ran. They made it to camp with a cyclops on their heels. Even though they were finally safe, Dominic still felt like something was pressing down on him. Bridgette at least was doing fine, being so young and cute that everyone doted on her.
It was only a few weeks before the oracle handed Dominic a quest. He hated to leave his siblings, but Chiron made it clear that he had no choice but to go. At least he made quick friends with his quest partners, Maxine and Spencer. On their quest he discovered that he had the power to teleport between shadows, and he also got some help from a ghost.
When they arrived back at camp holding their prize high, everyone gasped, not at the monster they defeated but at the dark glowing skull hanging over his and Charlotte’s heads. They had been claimed by Hades, god of the underworld. Bridgette, for some reason, had not. This development made lots of rumors in camp, as there had not been a child of Hades in decades and now there were two--three? While a lot of campers were now nervous around the siblings, Dominic was extremely happy to still have Spencer and Maxine.
A few nights later, Dominic’s father visited him in a dream and invited him to the Underworld. He went, and his father claimed that he wanted to be a father to him. But Hades only started talking about his powers and how the Underworld works. Hades denied being Bridgette’s father, but only showed mild interest in meeting with Charlotte. Over the next few years, Dominic went on many quests while skirting his father’s repeated demands. He isn’t sure what Hades wants with him, but he fears it can’t be good.
