“You, er, you work here?” Sirius tried, resisting the urge to roll his eyes at himself, instead leaning against the bar in an attempt to look casual.
Remus raised a brow at him, looking pointedly from Sirius down at his own hands that had moved on to rearranging the clean glasses and then up again, “It sure seems like it, dinnea it?”
Sirius felt his face flush, Remus' dry tone made him feel like even more of an idiot and there was a flare of anger in his chest. It wasn’t fair, he had done nothing but tried to be nice to Remus and yet he got nothing but snarky replies. Remus said nothing more as he continued to shift things around behind the bar, not paying Sirius any attention.
It annoyed Sirius more than he’d like to admit, but he wasn’t used to being ignored. He was used to turning people’s opinions about him around, and he had yet to fail on getting people to eat out of the palm of his hands regardless of what they thought they knew about him. He watched as Remus turned his attention to a woman that stepped up next to Sirius, an easy sort of smile on his face that looked a whole lot more genuine than anything he’d ever directed towards Sirius, serving her a glass of champagne.
Sirius desperately tried to come up with something to say and when they were alone again he ran his fingers lightly along the edge of the bar.
“This is a cool place,” he said, looking awkwardly around the room which was impressive in itself, but even more with the flowers and other decorations. “Big boat.”
Remus snorted, fingers working nimbly to cut up some limes, “It’s the Britannia. The Royal Yacht.”
“I know,” Sirius scowled. “I know where I am.”
Remus’ face was mostly hidden and with the scar down his face it was difficult to tell but Sirius could swear there was a hint of a smirk over his face as he replied, “Oh, I’m sorry, my bad.”
