Another one for the family album; my mother at an exhibition of prints at the ESW; including a chance meeting with my art teacher from nearly 40 years previously.
And many thanks to all who reblogged All in a Day’s Work, especially @ms-excuse-me; @istumbled-upon @arqsa as well as many others. Quite a flurry of interest.
Rather nice showing from #sutherlandhusseyharris at their #edinburghsculptureworkshop #edinburgh #brickparty #architecture #blackandwhite #sundayphotowalks

Sculpture
Up until 2 years ago, I only dreamed of being able to create 3D sculptural work. Books I had read in High School about different types of artists only fuelled my curiosity. Since beginning this course in August I have had a lot of access to materials that have allowed me to progress with my ideas in a more lateral way. We worked with clay, plaster and wood during our week at the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. We received a walkthrough giving us instructions on how to use the workshop machinery safely and efficiently. Although the work I ended up created never required me to use any of the machines, this experience was very helpful. It illustrated the availability of the machines and equipment on offer at ESW as well as the creative possibilities on offer. Being given a brief each day, every one similar to the one before, was a quick and productive way of working. We were asked to go on a 10 minute around the area. The aim was to venture out and leave our cameras and notebooks in the studio, allowing us to rely only on our instincts and memory. We were supposed to go out with the words FORM, BALANCE, SHAPE etc on our mind. Try to relate the shapes of building we saw with other buildings or roads or walls or trees. Contrast was big focus too.
