Friday morning coffee with my brother; dog walk; and photo opportunity.
This wet Scottish winter continues. But it does also provide opportunities.....
When the festival is on in Edinburgh, there's huge opportunities for unintentional abstract compositions to present themselves. Posters for shows are put up and the containers and temporary structures appear. Here's a photo of the setting up of a show in George Square that is an example of what I mean.
Me, my partner and the dog went to Camelon, Falkirk to visit my Mother in Law; as well as a nice walk along the canal watching dameslflies, I also managed to take a photograph or two.
Down Tools In amongst the world heritiage / fairy tale city that is Edinburgh, there's also a fair bit of building going on (sadly student flats seem to be the main output) The Athens of the North also has its fair share of the more prosaic side of everyday life.
Not that I'm about to become a sports photographer or anything... but after my recent completion of Scottish League football grounds, my older son did likewise. The occasion of Ayr Utd v Hibernian saw his final ground ticked off in a typical cup tie. Hard fought, plenty passion, occasional bursts of skill and some pyrotechnics from the young lads.
Edinburgh - The Athens of The North. Fairytale castles, extinct volcanoes in the centre of town, neoclassical buildings abound. Oh and Bladerunner / Akira vibes if you know where to look. **Thanks to all of you who've dropped by of late; your interest & enthusiasm is greatly appreciated 🙏**
I recently completed my tour of all the Scottish Football League grounds. All 42 of them. In the early 90s I visited all 38 as it was then, but with fatherhood and the opportunity to spend Saturday afternoons with my sons, we'd set about getting to all corners of Scottish football. Peterhead was my final call; sadly my team lost, but I'm grateful of the opportunity to spend time with my sons as we travel around this fine nation of ours, creating memories.
I blame @neiljohnsonphotography for this one. We had a chat some time ago about our favourite corners in Edinburgh aka the Athens of the North. Whilst not technically a corner, it is spiritually one as far as I'm concerned.
The latest Athens of the North / corner thing as part of an ongoing dialogue with @neiljohnsonphotography
More reflection / lines / geometry in black and white. Old dog/ new tricks vibes.
An evening dog walk; I was admiring the nice light when Sk8rGrl hove into view.... when life gives you lemons, get your camera out and take some shots!
I took a borrowed laptop back to the office today. I took the dog, too - he enjoyed the walk. And I got this photograph. #multitasking
Not Reinventing the Wheel
Edinburgh / black and white / lots of lines / / lone silhouette / standard procedure

Another shot from when I was out getting milk.... its a winning formula. No need to change it (Spoiler alert - there is, but not today)
Without intending to, there is a series of BlackWhiteBlue in the making; here's one from the collection I took recently in Kirkwall, Orkney.

Light and Shade. A tried and tested formula.
