So yesterday I had another birthday (which was great despite the fact that I got older), and my beloved who knows me so well gave me this wild, handmade lamp created out of an old Edison Cylinder!
The cylinders were the first form of recorded music ever (they were called records!) and were yet another one of Thomas Edison’s inventions. The format lasted about 20 years, from the late 1890s to about 1915, when it was supplanted by a newer, rival format, the gramophone record, which was more durable and cheaper to produce. It is a mind blower to even own one (sort of); Michelle is so awesome.
