After watching “Cinderella” 1997 I’ve found out that there is an original production – “Cinderella” 1957 and so I decided to watch it, especially because it’s only one hour and sixteen minutes and it stares Julie Andrews as Cinderella. So, I’ve found it and realized that it’s black and white. It’s probably the first black and white movie in English I’ve watched. Well, I don’t mean it’s something bad, I love old movies, but previously I’ve watched only Soviet black and white movies (such as “Ivan the Terrible” and “Alexander Nevsky” or “Heavenly Slug” and “Officers”). Well, this version of “Cinderella” is more musical – it has shorter pauses between songs. It’s very atmospheric and lovely and, of course, Andrews is wonderful as always, even though it was only second her movie (not counting dubbing)! It was very funny, that they made the Queen sew on King’s pants and tidy up the palace. Actually, that movie reminded me of the good old Soviet “Cinderella” 1947 – it’s also black and white (it was coloured later, but I prefer the original), with songs (not so many as here) and very lovely! (You can find the coloured version on YouTube with English subtitles and I strongly recommend to watch it, if you like old movies.)
(Sorry for the quality of the pictures, but the movie just does look like that.)
