What is editorial design?

Before doing research, we were told to answer “what is editorial design?” but I think the question is trying to ask what do WE think editorial design is. So without doing any research to answer this question, I think editorial design is the layouts of certain things, such as newspapers and magazines. But going into this further, I think that editorial design is the process of trying to get everything on the page to work well with each other, in order to create a pleasant experience for not just the average reader, but for the readers who may have an interest in design.
