Here are some things that were said in my newsroom today...
Next 3 fuck ups in order:
1) a white gay boy says that he doesn’t want to continue putting the QI (questioning and intersex) in articles concerning the LGBTQQIA community because it’s too much and “those people don’t even really matter”
2) Same white gay talks about how Miley Cyrus will be hosting the VMA’s and we should be covering it, because she’s going to say something racist. Another white girl stands and says, “is she just culturally insensitive, or racist? You know, there’s a difference!” The only black faculty in the room and I make direct eye contact, we affirm the message, “did she just fucking say that?”
3) Editor-in-chief says that once she called out someone for calling someone an “alien” when they’re obviously “illegal immigrants”
4) The art director proposes a sex issues and decides it would be great to just “put a bunch of black dick” on the cover
5) The magazine, as a whole, decides that sometimes there are people in your publication that are “dumb” and editors only got to this position because we “learned well.”
And that’s why I had a terrible day. This is the type of stuff happening in newspapers and magazines. I’m not mentioning any names because I can get sued, but just know, I’m handling! Please send me sweet messages today. I need this headache gone.
