Look. Jai Wolf is the real fucking deal. His poppy, whimsical Future Bass productions have an almost nourishing power. His mixes are fun and full of feels. I’m pretty stoked on him. More info on the Soundcloud page, including a link to a cool interview!
Mysterious and eccentric Jersey Club prince Depressed Teenager was by far one of the most personally important producers I discovered this year. I was pretty much entirely ignorant of Jersey Club music before being introduced to DT through his superbly fun remix of @kittydothedishes‘ Miss U. I was immediately hooked by the chaotic but divinely danceable bounce that defines a DT track. Jersey Club is a highly distinctive genre of EDM, practically unique even, and I don’t really have the musical vocabulary to describe it. Listen for yourself if you’re curious! I could never pick just one Depressed Teenager song, so I’ll be posting several more of his best tonight. Hopefully you’ll see why I’ve become such an ardent fan!
Last EDM 2015 post of the night, tune in tomorrow for more!
I don’t know a lot about Danish trap duo Obei, but their Be Real remix is wonderful and eerie. The pitched-up vocals are striking but still retain the wistful quality of the original.
I started listening to Chippy Nonstop a couple years ago when she was a rapper, but this year she became one of my favorite DJs in terms of mixing performance. She has a knack for delightfully filthy hip-hop mixes, perfect for twerking alone in your room or just riding around in your car with the bass turned up. Try to make it to one of her legendary raves if you’re ever in Vancouver.
