Wellness Ambassdors Stepping Up: Students Volunteer at the Annual Port Towns Day
On Saturday, September 21, 2013, 46 Port Towns Youth Council (PTYC) members, parents, ETHM Board Members, and Staff volunteered at the 17th Annual Port Towns Day at Bladensburg Waterfront Park. The festival is a day-long celebration of the Port Towns Community.
This year, the PTYC Wellness Ambassadors performed their Pedestrian Safety Step for a crowd of over 1,000 people. The Wellness Ambassadors choreographed their step routine during the 2013 Wellness Ambassadors Health Policy SummerCamp, which emphasizes four major pedestrian safety tips: (1) Walkers Wear White at Night!; (2)Be Alert! Look left, look right, look left again, when crossing the street; (3) Always walk on sides walks or paths. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the shoulder facing traffic; (4) Cutting through cars is not cool! The safest place to cross is at a marked crosswalk, at an intersection or with a crossing guard. Busy busy bees...
Every day is a busy day in Prince George's County! I recently started a new position with End Time Harvest Ministries, a non-profit based in the Port Towns, MD. The organization works to redevelop communities by empowering youth. My work with this initiative takes me all over the County, and allows me the opportunity to support my community. So many projects coming up! Will post photos and videos soon.
